WRX Hawkeye Creaky Boot Lid.
 

I'm wanting to sort out my creaky boot lid on my hawkeye as it's pretty loud. Any ideas on the best lubricant to use and the key locations to lube? I tried a few sprays of GT85 here and there to try alleviate some of the noise which it did for but not for very long. Is there any point in trying to quiet it down or are the boot lids just very creaky by design and there isn't a lot you can do about it?

When mine starts to creak (on opening and closing), I give it a good blast of WD40 around the torsion bars and where the torsion bars sit on the hinges.

Adjust the striker plate. Loosen slightly and knock it down a few mm then re tighten...it'll take away all boot noises

Gave it another go with the GT85 on the torsion bars and also the hinges. Since then through normal opening and closing of the boot the creaking has gone away.

Thought i'd update on this post now i have a 100% positive outcome, the GT85 didn't last long and there was still a faint creaking even after immediate application. Just this weekend i got a hold of some WD-40 Silicone lubricant and sprayed it at these locations on each of the boot lid arms, pretty much ignored the torsion bars for the most part but still gave them a little attention:

It was a little difficult to have the arm in a decent position to spray up into the hinge as it involved leaning into the boot and having the lid closed onto my back as far as it could. Now the boot lid is surreal in how silent it is, doesn't make a single sound on open and close (apart from the latch of course). A far cry from the pirates chest it sounded like before. WD-40 Silicone lubricant is the way to go to silence a squeaky boot lid :top:

I'll give the lithium a go if the silicone doesn't last as i picked up some of the Lithium at the same time to do all the door hinges etc.The Silicone variant is not as messy which is why i went with that first out of the two.

Don't use silicone on metal to metal. Use a proper grease

When it starts squeaking again I'll switch to the lithium if that's the case. I'm not too concerned about the potential for increased metal on metal wear on a boot lid hinge with a silicone lubricant. I'm sure it's alot better than the absence of lubricant and its not a high frequency friction area of the car. Good to know for the future though :thumb:
