hi guys
I have a jdm spec ver 4 impreza STi wagon. THe rear diff is leaking from the driver side axle seal. The seals are directional? its a different part number for driver/passenger side? Also when replacing the axle seal, do I have to remove that 5 bolt plate? Thanks. |
Seals can be replaced without taking the plate off.
There is a rubber O-ring behind the plate you might aswell replace when your there. A full seal kit, 2 driveshaft, O-rings behind plate, prop shaft seal and rear cover gasket are only £35-40 odd from icp Take the diff down and do the lot on a bench |

I'm located in Canada so the dealership can't help with part numbers for JDM equivalent cars. Not in there system. That diagram I got from Japanparts.com so I guess I'll order it from there. Can you point out what is what on that pic I attached? I can see the cover gasket. Is the propshaft seal connected to the driveshaft? My mechanic says he will leave the diff on the car, well this was doing just the seal. Not sure if he is willing to remove it to change what you suggested, orings, prop shaft seal. Does the seal kit include all those you mentioned? |

Since we don't get these in Canada there are a few part numbers I've seen. 806732210/806732220 (32x50x11) I think this is left and right side 806732200 (32x52x11) this one is for both sides Anyone encounter using 2 different left/right seals? |
Yip, they should be directional, when you take them out, have a look at the lip with a magnifying glass and you will see a spiral on them. I recently did a front shaft seal and these were handed to. You could drain the diff, pop the shaft, undo the 5 bolts and pull the plate off then do it on the bench and pop it back with a new o ring,
www.jp-carparts.com This is a good place for JDM part nos. |
