Hatch Owners - THE best suspension mod...!

...actually, for all Scoobies :thumb:

Also - could be argued, 'more of an improvement than ARB's' Yes! It's true!

Remove your hatch slop now with this amazing product. I own WhiteSuperPro so should know...

'Rear subframe bush INSERTS'

Ever since ownership of my 2008 STi hatch, the rear slop has bugged me the most. I upgraded the arb's 400 miles ago (22mm f&r) and this subframe mod has the most pleasing.

Turn in, and there's no rear 'trailer' swinging unwildly behind. Whole car feels more positive blah blah

The rear subframe is held to the car with just 4 bolts, and void bushes - which are very soft - see vlp below. The insert bushes squeeze into these voids, firming up the whole thing

Go to 1'25 to see OE slop

Install Vid

Tips:

Get your Subaru team to do the install - it will take less than one hour

DIY like I did - I quite enjoy a degree of post suspension spannering pain, and I have it, as I made a mistake...

Ensure you do this install on a flat surface, not as I did, on a slight slope, as when the subframe is detached from the body, each will drift and re-alignment will be a nightmare

Other than that, it's a simple job

Interesting.. I posted a comment about my car feeling worse as the fuel level dropped.. and better once the tank is full.. could it be the weight of the fuel is supporting the old bushes and as it lightens at the back, more play is noticed. The current stock bushes have seen 120k miles over 16 years.

ATWRX 20 July 2018 12:37 PM

Hi Bonesetter, interesting read, do you have a website? Never heard of WhiteSuperPro, do you manufacture your own products? be interested in some product for my own car.

Tricky to say either way...

Have you looked at your bushes to see if there is play in them (there must be some w&t after 120K)

:lol1:

No, that was a bit of p1ss taking self rhetoric :Whatever_:thumb:

bonesetter, in another thread you advertised another rear subframe mod: lock bolts. Don't these inserts have the same purpose as these lockbolts, just the other way round - to minimise rear subframe movement? Or maybe there are 2 different rear subframes? How do these 2 mods differ?
Also, in the first sentence you have written about all Scoobies, but I see no such item for previous model on WL website.

Uxon - first of all, there's no advertisement - I'm an enthusiast like yourself and have no commercial interest whatever

The inserts which fill the voids on the later cars (my hatch and later cars) do indeed serve the same purpose as lock bolts

uxon 24 July 2018 10:41 AM

OK, I used a wrong word, you recommended them :)
But please tell me, do you have both of these mods currently? Which of them gave you better improvement?
Also, no increased NVH from any of them?

bonesetter 24 July 2018 10:50 AM

Hi Uxon
I do indeed have both :-)
The lock bolts I run on my Type R and the inserts I have just fitted to the hatch

All I can say is that both seem to do a very similar job, and no, zero increase in NVH

A very worthwhile upgrade, one of the best imo

Love the sound of this mod. And the kit is only about £50 on eBay.

Sounds like is on my list of things to do!

Looks like something I should be doing to my new shape.

I fitted the lock bolts to my forester STI and it made a big difference. Such a cheap mod but so worth doing.

Perksy 31 August 2018 11:51 AM

What are these lock bolts please?

Lock bolts are not applicable to the Hatch onwards rear suspension as it is totally different to what came before in the Impreza/ Forester (upto SG models).

This thread seems to have difted away from it's intention regarding rear subframe bush inserts :top:

BrownPantsRacing 31 August 2018 01:28 PM

I just did a bit of searching and found that too Dom. Subframe locking bolts only available up to 2007.

Will have to in vest in that bush kit.

One of the comments under the video on YouTube...

Its not that they are bad, stock bushings give like that for added comfort. When you go to a poly bushing or something more rigid the handling will feel more responsive but you will feel more bumps and your ride will be more jarring. Stock bushing have to be comfortable or most people that buy them wouldn't like how they ride. Most people want sports cars not race cars. hope that helps :)

Mine have arrived today, hopefully they'll be fairly straightforward to fit :thumb:

Nice Rusti!

remember to carry out the install on a flat surface, and make sure you have a few trolley jacks. A ramp with separate jack is ideal

Let us know how you get on

Rusti 25 October 2018 02:54 PM

Will do!

I have axle stands and two trolley jacks so hopefully that will be enough.

BrownPantsRacing 25 October 2018 04:12 PM

Had these fitted to my car last week. Seems great so far. Pushed the car hard last night and it feels lovely.

Matty81 25 October 2018 07:10 PM

Had the anti lift kit and bump steer correction kit fitted the other day. With my new superpro front/rear arbs and drop links, and with a geosetup the car feels lovely now.

Yeah not so well, the bolts are knackered and stuck fast. The bushes are not much better either!

BrownPantsRacing 29 October 2018 02:17 PM

Ouch. Yes, they need new bushes asap.

BrownPantsRacing 29 October 2018 02:22 PM

Did you use a 6 sided socket and breaker bar to try remove the bolts?

Never use a standard 12 sided socket on bolts like this, they don't apply enough force and will only round the bolt heads off and make it impossible to remove.

Rusti 29 October 2018 02:24 PM

The question is will the inserts suffice or are we now thinking full poly replacement?

I think I would prefer to put oem ones back in with the inserts (that I've opened)

BrownPantsRacing 29 October 2018 02:25 PM

I'd go OEM with inserts. However you may well find that you need to take the whole rear subframe off to get the bushes out. I'll hedge a bet you need to air chisel them out of the frame.

Yes 6 sided on a breaker was used it was just brittle and corroded.

In which case its going to need to go to Subaru / garage as I dont have that kit or a bush press. thats depressing!

BrownPantsRacing 29 October 2018 02:43 PM

Bugger.
