locked up brakes, need a solution
having trouble with my classic impreza sport, just some background info, it has 1 pot calipers in the front and drums in the back, its a 2001, it has had locking brake issues for a while, the front left brake caliper and rear right brake drum are locking and will only let up if the bleed nipple is turned, my mechanic suspects master cylinder but cannot confirm, yet think it could possibly the caliper return pins in the front left caliper not being free and this somehow locking the both brakes hydraulically, could it be this? or is it one step worse and the abs gone bad?? my mechanic suspects the master cylinder, could this manifest in these problems, the cars been causing issues for a while now and i just want the brake issues fixed for once:brickwall:brickwall:brickwall

In rare cases it could be a master cylinder , I would check the sliders and pistons are free to move first as this would be the obvious reason , but this wouldn't lock on the rear drum , have they had it apart to check the calipers and inside the drum , it could be a coincidence that you have issue's with these at the same time

Disconnect the hill holder and see if that releases them.

still have no idea
the front left caliper was replaced for a brand new unit yet by the looks of it the caliper slide pins were not replaced, this is what brings up the issue that the opposite brakes are linked hydrallically, ive read on the subaru forester page that someone had a similair issue and managed to fix it by regreasing the caliper slide pins, i've had brake issues for a long time and just want it sorted yet nothing I do or my mechanic can do fixes it
i will check for a hill holder but from memory i dont think my car has one, will have to look next time i'm at the car |
