OBD2 -Won't connect to ECU

Hi All,

I've a V4 Type R which has an obd2 port.

There's power to the port, I have tried a launch diagnostics and torque app and neither connect to the ecu. Both systems connect to the wires obd2 fitting and work in other cars.

As this was the crossover year for obd1 to obd2.

Did they wire in dead/dummy obd2 ports?

Come to think of it I did see green/black connectors for the flash diagnostics, although I can't confirm until I'm home at the weekend.

No OBD as such you need SSM if its V4 connect the plugs under the cowl if there's something wrong.

So the japs like to power up an obd2 for the crack, some bunch!

Thanks

Subaru have always used SSM (Subaru Select Monitor v1,2 and now 3) in Japan and only made UK/European cars additionally compliant with EOBD (subset of OBD2) when necessary in 2001.
As it was compulsory to fit OBD2 diagnostics in the US from 1997, OBD2 style connectors where standardised for diagnostics, including SSM, across all markets.

Ahh o.k

So I was looking into it a bit more myself, I was talking to my brother so he said he should have fittings there to work with his launch.

Also had a look at my torque pro app and changed it to ssm, also just wondering if it will communicate with my elm 327 obd2 port.

Will have to wait until I'm home at the weekend anyway

ELM327 is not compatible with SSM.
The only key found to work is OBDKey as mentioned in this thread on Subaruforester.org
