alternative to standard guage placement

im wanting to fit oil temp and pressure guage to my car, so i know when its up to temp before using it properly, im not 100% keen on the idea of pillar pods or pods on top of the dash, is there anyway to run them to a double din screen, or fit a single din radio and have the guages in the other space? ive seen toucan but that is pretty pricey from what ive seen. and i assume the sensor fitted to the oil filter is not the advised method of sensor placing and rather to go into the plug under the intercooler? any advice on it would be much appreciated

Can't help with placing the gauges, and yoiu need to say what car, year, model to help those who might be able to.

As far as senders are concerned, oil PRESSURE in the place of the standard o-p switch, and if you want to keep the switch, or if the sender doesn't physically fit in the space, use a fitting kit with T-piece.

Oil TEMPERATURE goes into the tappings where the bung is over cylinder 3, as you said. You'l need an adaptor, sometimes sold with the T-Piece above.

And with adaptor: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-OI...sAAOxyPLpRcW8l

Thing is, gauges are there to TELL you stuff, as you said. So they need to be where they can easily be seen: eye level on the A pillar or dash top does that.

This. IMO it's safe driving if you're looking down to check your gauges.

Will need to have a think about it then either get a lower rising one for the dash, unsure if they're available or go for steering column

What about one of these Andrew;

I have one like this - which will be up for sale v soon - and I am only up the road from you in MK if you want to come and have a look.

(I have this, with a single pillar pod for oil temp/pressure/boost)

The important factor to my mind is that the gauges have warning functions. Either lights or buzzers. You don't need to be constantly checking oil pressure, water/oil temp, boost etc but you need to know ASAP when things look to be going awry. So if you get decent gauges with warning/alarm functionality, it isn't so crucial that they are in your direct eye-line and so you have a bit more freedom as to where you mount them.

Same as the Autometer version but again says LHD only. Can't imagine what the difference would be though.

The steering column ones look good I think. There was a company in the u.s that made a surround for the main dials with pods for gauges built in

Sorry, maybe I wasn’t clear - I have one of these style gauge pods, but not sure what brand it is as I bought it second hand. Works perfectly fine on my UK Blob :thumb:

Yeah I did read somewhere they were designed for LHD but could be fitted to rhd just had a slight gap, it'd be great to come have a look at them get a much better idea how they look and fit rather than just from a few select angles on photos. When are you free?
