Handbrake issues

I’ve reached the end of my tether!

2005 WRX - I’ve changed the rear disc and pads and fitted Godspeed refurbed 2 pots. Whilst it was in pieces I changed the handbrake shoes and springs.

Problem is the handbrake doesn’t work....I’ve adjusted it at the back and in the car, but just can’t get it to work. Operating the handbrake with the disc off shows the shoes move but not very much.

Any ideas????

At the point of binning the car as I’ve had enough of it!

were the shoes the same as the ones you took out ?

Good question, I’ve no idea. Didn’t think about that. I’ll have to whip the new ones off and compare with the old ones.

Cheers

Being honest, unless the old ones are knackered, as they get so little use, id be tempted to refit the ones that worked before.

Check that the shoe spreader at the inside top hasn't slipped down. I had this happen once and the handbrake was useless. The balance bar behind the handbrake lever couldn't cope with the massive difference/

Cheers guys, gives me a couple of options, hopefully get the wheels off this weekend and get to the bottom of it!

Thanks

You can adjust the cable under centre console behind the leaver as well as the adjuster on the shoes
