Virgin superhub v3 firewall and Hikvision
 

Right, I used to have a Superhub 2AC that worked perfect, until something broke and gave me 1mb internet speeds and loads of lost packets. Virgin man came round and fixed it. This includes swapping the 2AC for a Superhub V3. So, great faster wifi, and I got my 200mb internet back.

As they do, the kind Virgin man left it upto me to sort out the port forwarding. Arse. Lucky I took pictures of the settings from the old Superhub, I copied them over, nothing worked. So just to get it up and running I stuck it in modem mode and utilised my trusty old Asus RT-N66U.

After lots of research I find that the Hub V3 has a buggy firewall...turns out the port forwarding only works if you add each rule in numerical order of the ports (I.e port 80 first, port 8000 last). So that's what I did, and bingo it all works....

So I set it back up as the main router (as it has faster wifi than the Asus), and all appears well.

Sort of...every now and again I cannot access my CCTV cameras remotely. :mad: sometimes it works, sometime it doesn't with no real pattern. iVMS just says 'connection failed'. I retry a few mins later and it works, try again later and it fails again.

It's 100% the V3 hub at fault as its fine with the Asus, as it was with the 2AC hub. I can only think there is some stupid setting that's screwing it up...I disabled IP flood detection, is there anything else I should check/uncheck?

Otherwise it's going to have to go back into modem mode and I'll have to fork out for a replacement to the Asus (as good as it is, the wifi is too slow) or plead with Virgin for a 2AC hub.

I have a TP-Link AC1900

It comes in 2 flavours - either as an ADSL Modem or as a Cable Modem. Get the one that works for you and then you get sensible Port Forwarding, fast WiFi and reliable connectivity. My Hikvision is a lot quicker since sticking one of those at each of my properties.

One thing that I did have issues with previously, was setting port forwarding up on http/s to get direct access to cameras rather than just the NVR. Sometimes the routing would get it's knickers in a twist. For this I mean that I had http on 80 for NVR, 81 for Cam1 etc. Same with 8000 for NVR and 8001 for Cam1 etc.

I remember the port forwarding for direct camera access was a little tricky. Can't remember what I did now as I don't need to remote admin that much. Doesn't work at all on the V3 hub.

Looks like the Superhub will have to go into modem only mode. No love lost as I couldn't get the VPN to work either (I gave up on that as I only really used it to stream stuff when I'm abroad so Amazon/iplayer etc tries to block what I want to watch ).

Do log in via P2P or IP?
Does the app offer P2P log in?

No: It's the iOS smartphone app. (iVMS4500) which I really need working reliably when I'm away.

Push notification alerts do seem to get through (I think, maybe not all of them :wonder: ).

But the same problem exists via web browser. Be it via the DDNS or by punching in my actual IP (It's not static but I've had the same address for over 12months now).

I also have the sh3 in modem mode using an Asus RT-AC68U .
I have the Merlin firmware on my Asus google this if you need to find out more.

However as your SH3 is in modem mode your settings are all in the Asus router.
Mines is flawless also using a Hikvision DVR

The Asus picks the Hickvision and makes it a static IP so no messing around

By using P2P you dont need a static IP,
I recently started using this over IP login as a few customers were unable to get static IP address`s,
But it also stopped issues with port mapping,

You didnt answer how you logged in, IP or Onvif/P2P.

That was my original setup. Just with a older and slower router. When the hub 2AC came out it had faster WIFi throughput than the RT-N66 so I used that and retired the Asus, this worked fine until it was replaced with the SH3.

Sorry, didn't realise you meant EZVIZ/Hikcloud. In which case no, I don't have a account setup.

I will give it try though. Is there any risk that Hikvision may discontinue it in the future like they did with their DDNS or decide to charge a subscription fee for its use?

The virgin routers are absolutely trash. what ever you do put it in modem mode and use your own decent router. The Asus one you mentioned is a far better more capable router the the SH3

Yep, back on to ancient Asus.

Problem is now internal wifi is capped at approx 300mb because it's only a N router not a AC....so no backing up to the NAS from the laptop for the moment. :o

Point to note, the SH3 appears to be very reluctant to work in modem mode. I guess it's to do with MAC addresses changing and releasing my old IP address: Needed to be powered off for about ten minutes. Asus reset, then power-on the SH3 and leave it for 5min to boot up and decombobulate.

Never had to do that with the SH 2AC. :rolleyes:

Just a thought but cannot you use the SH3 as a simple WiFi router? Then you can use it to get decent WiFi and the Asus for internet connectivity...

I used to do that with the SH 2AC. The SH3 didn't seem to like it, maybe it just hates the Asus. :wonder:

As said the SH3 is a pile of junk- put it into modem mode and the Asus router is a far superior unit.

Asus made some changes to the firmware which has now limited some features to get around this I use custom firmware made by merlin, If you use the power of google you will find this.

I personally highly recommend the custom firmware on the Asus router.

My model is the RT-AC68U using Merlin firmware.
