I ask as i pass a local speed cash van at 15 mph for safety reasons,( it's a 30 limit dual carriageway) it has many potholes & the low sun often shines in my eyes.:Whatever_:wonder:

No - if you can justify why you are going slow

FranK RA 25 April 2018 07:40 PM

So that would also mean Yes if you can’t justify why...

So, Felix, there are no artificially low limits in the UK? No cameras positioned in otherwise safe places JUSt to catch someone who goes over an arbitrary limit?

Cue Felix to come out with the bullsh*t about it being the law...like that bothers coppers going for a conviction, stealing and selling drugs....etc

But oh, I forgot, YOU never do owt like that, do you Felix, so your sanctimonious bullcr@p is OK to spout:rolleyes:

I think you will find that I am emergency response so don't touch any traffic.

And can you say for certain that the cameras are just placed for revenue? And if so, if everyone travels at the correct speed, you will stop the money flow.

Depends on the circumstances - it would be along the lines of causing an unnecessary obstruction - doing 20mph along the dual carriageway etc

FranK RA 25 April 2018 07:43 PM

So Yes you can be done for driving too slow....

Felix. 25 April 2018 07:49 PM

you will be done for causing an unnecessary obstruction, not just for driving slow

FranK RA 25 April 2018 07:51 PM

The guy asked if you can be done for going too slow. A simple Yes would have sufficed. Not sure why you replied No.
:D

Felix f**k off to work will you. You and your workmates can concoct some lies to prosecute some innocent being going about their day.

I don't concoct lies - and if you can't handle a debate without becoming abusive, I suggest you are in the wrong forum.

I don't work 'in the safety van'. I work in emergency response and hence do not touch any traffic matters other than drink drive, major collisions & stolen cars etc etc

Because you can not be 'done' for going too slow. You will be 'done' for causing an unnecessary obstruction dependent on the situation.
The original comment concerned going at 15mph in a 30mph due to pot holes in the road - in that scenario you will not be 'done' so my answer was correct.

No wonder he got sent down. You threaten their revenue stream, they will get nasty.

No - what he did was lied to the court and the investigation - hence he was sentenced for perverting the course of justice.

FranK RA 25 April 2018 11:51 PM

You my friend are a complete tit. You’d argue black was white to save face.
I “was” giving you the benefit of the doubt and trying to have a light hearted conversation about it but you still choose to be a sanctimonious arsehole.
The bottom line is. If you drive too slow you can be charged with an offence. It’s common sense!
Here’s me thinking some of the guys were being a tad harsh but as mentioned before. You just don’t get it. Mind you, you’re not the first person to put on a uniform , have a severe lack of common sense and hide behind a badge.
Trust me.... you’re in the right job. Well done :thumb:

pimmo2000 26 April 2018 07:08 AM

Changing the subject slightly .. why when the cameras are there to "save lives" and slow people down, is it perverting the course of justice to warn others of their presence?

Frank - if it makes it easier for you to comprehend - then yes, you can be 'done' for 'driving too slowly.'
What you will actually be summonsed for is unnecessary obstruction.

I make the distinction as there will be people on here who will use the 'done for driving too slowly' to show that they have done the same by driving past a camera 'driving too slowly' and nothing happens and it jolly well 'boo hiss' for common sense.

I think CPS went for obstruct police as apposed to perverting the course of justice.
From memory i think the court argued that by flashing his lights he was unnecessarily causing the traffic to slow before the 'speed trap' therefore rendering the 'speed trap' ineffective.

I don't agree with this decision by the way - and if it caused traffic to slow down to the speed limit, then all well and good.

andy97 26 April 2018 08:05 AM

I flash my lights when I see my friends coming the other way, trouble is I keep being mistaken who my friends are :)

Could be seen as defaulting the Treasury of well earned cash, so you are in a way "stealing" from them and plod will lock you up.........

Also plod i believe get £100 a person running speed awareness courses. This is a more serious offence. which is likely to bring about you having to agree with everything FELIX says......

I actually don't bother overtaking these days, stick my car on adaptive auto cruise, it just follows the car Infront 2 seconds behind, alot less stressful.

20 in a 30? 30 in a 40? where do you draw the line?

By staying at the speed limit to overtake then you are being more dangerous, due to being in the opposing lane for longer.

I did say at or near, I usually set my cruise 1-5mph below the limit dependent on the road/conditions I'm travelling along.

Your example is in around 30% less than the speed limit, which if travelling along an open road with no obvious hazards is a little slow. However, I'd have no issues if travelling through a busy street with people, parked cars all around, driving at a speed of 20 or even 15mph. Our local town is a good example, where the limit is 30, its just not safe to travel at that speed with so many people crossing the road and the vehicles parked up.

Then there vehicles travelling at less than the prescribed limit for cars only, larger vans, towing vehicles which are travelling 10mph slower. Then there are horses with riders, cyclists, the odd pedestrian. You cannot just say I drive at the speed limit, because you cannot be safe to do so all the time. Then you will fall very quickly into the category of inconsiderate/careless or even dangerous driver.

You alter your speed to the conditions before you on that piece of road. The limit is just that, maximum when conditions allow.:thumb:

So jail for a bloke acting like a dick

vs.

Community order for this : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-engl...iver-s-journey

I know who'd be more likely to kill someone and who'd I rather have in jail.

Irony here is camera vans don't catch these type of drivers, of whom are the most dangerous.

If the daft cow in your link had lied under caution, tried to get rid of the evidence, and denied repeatedly she was anywhere the scene of the incident at the time, she would probably have got jail-time too.
