Power Steering Noise

I took my 2007 Hawkeye into a well known Scooby specialist last year to have the rad replaced - had a Mishimoto fitted; nice!

However, the garage phoned and said to come a day later as the power steering had started making a noise and they wanted to look into it - bleed it, etc. They couldn't fix it and it's been sounding like Chewbacca for about 5 mins after startup - worse in the cold. The steering during this period is also lumpy. After 5 mins/ half a mile, it's absolutely fine.

For the last month or so, the belt has joined in, squealing for about 5 seconds each cold startup. The belt was replaced last year and the tension was fine (about 6-8mm displacement range). It was a Gates belt, which I believe are OK but I have now fitted a new OEM belt.

The squealing has stopped (although it is currently a warm sunny day) but Chewbacca is still murmuring lock-to-lock.

She's done about 78k and the PAS fluid is on max, so no leaks.

Is there anything I can do other than throw a new pump at it? It was perfect before the rad change :wonder:

Change the fluid first.................. also sounds as if the belt needs replacing.

Thanks Don,

She's going in for another service on Thursday, so will get the dealer to change the fluid and will report back. I'll dip some paper towel in the reservoir tomorrow to check the colour too.

I will also have a look and see when brake and clutch fluids were last done.

As I said in initial post, I have just changed the belt. Got a genuine one.

Check the little o ring under the top of the pump, before you replace pump. It perishes and let's air in
