Big brake upgrade for Blob WRX??
 

Rather than just refresh my WRX brakes on my 04 blob PPP with standard parts I am looking at the possibility of getting a big brake kit.

Has anyone on here tried the Godspeed Brembo 4 Pot Kit With 330mm 2 Piece Discs and Bells, I dont really want to pay more than this or fit anything bigger because I want them to fit under the 17" V7 STI wheels I have.

I don't really fancy messing about refurbing, and fitting old STI calipers either

Any thoughts??

Yes I have the set, Really good setup, just choose your pads wisely, I went for ds2500 and they are a bit wooden. Godspeed do 2 different sets, for a bit more you get a caliper with a slightly larger pad.

We offer loads of different pads , but price goes up slightly on others , we offer either DS2500's or performance friction Z rated pads for £999 , we can offer CL RC5 pads in with the kit for £1100 , they are popular , but can be squeely round town , can supply mintex , ebc, Brembo, all other Ferodo or PF compounds , pagid RS42 , rs 29's ect ECT.
We can also offer the kit with out curved vane race discs for £50 more .

The calipers are light and strong being monoblock one piece calipers .
Overall they are a very good kit for the money

I went with used STI Brembos, but whatever you get you need to make sure your wheels will clear the calipers (standard WRX 17" wheels don't clear Brembos), and that the handbrake shoes will work (different size between WRX and STI).

The STi Brembo's will not fit under the WRX 17" wheels , but they do fit over our 330mm Brembo kit

As mentioned in the original post, I have V7 Sti wheels so 330mm discs or Sti calipers would not be a problem. It just so happens as already mentioned I do not want 2nd hand Sti calipers

Whatever you do, it will be better than the OEM 4 pots!

OK so I think I will go for the Godspeed Brembo kit with PF Z pads.

My next question would be regarding dust shields. I wondered if the STI shields that are available for about £50 from ICP would work with the Godspeed discs as they are 330mm or is there a difference in the offsets.

I have this Brembo kit from Godspeed with PF pads see review in this thread. This kit just fits under standard 17inch wheels.

No you need to remove the dust shields as the discs will foul against them , our bells are deeper than others taking the discs in further , we make them like that to give maximum clearance for wheel to calipers

Did you have to remove the lock washer on the caliper bolts to get them to fit under the wheel? I take it those are 17 inch wheels. My Hawkeye standard wheels were just too small. Also I had to move the balancing weights to clear the caliper. Do you check for run out?

I didn't fit them myself, didn't have the time due to young family. So it was done with the fixings that came in the kit, except the bracket to hub bolts were swapped for ones with shallower heads because they were close to the discs. If I get chance at some point I will have one of the wheels off and do some more pictures of the fixings etc, and maybe one to show the caliper clearance to the wheel.

Please take pictures I am interested if the lock washers were used. Please tell me they checked for run out? You will warp the disks quickly if they are not true on the hub. Make sure the pads go in without effort else they will rub and warp the disks, that why they supply shims to center the disk.

It was done at SGT near Maidenhead, they are ex main dealer. I would hope they know what they are doing. I have had warped discs in the past and know what that can feel/sound like. In the short distance I have driven I have not noticed any of these effects, and I don't have a dial gauge to check it myself so not much I can do there. Will see if I can get some time on it tomorrow.

We don't supply spring washers for the bolts that hold the caliper to the bracket anymore , as it can make the head of the bolt touch the wheel on some wheel types , not all , so easier to not fit them

Got 20 miles on them now , nice and smooth/quiet can feel the bite improving nicely
