Cosworth AP brakes

Hi does anyone have any experience with these brakes, I’m interested to understand the difference compared to the normal AP range, thanks

FarfocelI 09 April 2018 09:50 AM

could be bigger or smaller pistons but do not think so
old design heavy caliper, cp9040 is way better choice

B9SLJ 09 April 2018 07:20 PM

I have the ap cosworth calipers on my car. They are cp7040 calipers with 356mm rotors. Nice upgrade for any Subaru imo

bustaMOVEs 09 April 2018 08:16 PM

I'm pretty sure they are just 7040s with cosworth logo on?

B9SLJ 10 April 2018 06:54 AM

Yes busta they have 7040 on the rear of the calipers

IainMilford 10 April 2018 08:28 AM

Thanks chaps, what is the difference between the 9040 and 7040 calipers then?

AS Performance 10 April 2018 08:55 AM

no real difference the 9040 is simply the newer version of the 7040 but both are decent performance road type calipers

to be specific the 9040 'forged' caliper is 3.7kgs so heavier than the 7040 at 3.4kgs

I’ve been offered a set of cosworth ap’s at a great price but trying to work out if it’s worth the extra over a new set of k-sports, by the time I have my pad of choice it’s an extra £400-£500

Ap are deffo woth it ove ksport, not to mention corrosion on the ksports over time. Budget caliper

B9SLJ 10 April 2018 08:01 PM

I’ve had ksport before AP and the ap are far superior brakes in my own experience

madwrx 10 April 2018 09:53 PM

i reckon the pad range on the APs will be more extensive too iain

AS Performance 11 April 2018 08:40 AM

all depends on exactly which caliper is in the Cosworth kit but if its is the 7040/9040 family then the pads costs are generally lower than the Ksport (which uses a more competition derived AP 6pot shape) however on-going the replacement AP rotors will cost more

in 355mm buy ksport rotors -people rate them higher than ap's
or PFC best

@farfocelI
You’ve just said they are based on older heavier calipers yet been proven wrong now ksport are better than ap rotors based on what people say, do you have any basis for this assumption or just what you have heard at some point, any back to back testing over a period of time as I’ve been pretty happy with ap rotors over the years.
