R180 plated diff options?

Hi, I'm looking into a plated rear diff for my TypeR, I currently have a r180 354 fitted but don't believe it's plated.
Now the question is, is there a plated diff from another scooby I can fit in mine or straight swap? What excact cars can I get them off and wether it's a straight diff swap or swapping casings over?

I know I can buy Kaaz, Cusco etc but what's the best cost effective option please.
Thanks

Obviously it needs to work with my box that's mated to the 354 box

Early Hawkeyes should have a plated R180 I think.

5 or 6 speeds?

I know the 5 speed TypeR, sti RA etc have plated diff but don't think it's compatible with the ratios for my 6 speed box

Also does anyone know if I can get a r160 plated diff and put internals into my r180 casing and use some of my components to make it a 3.54?

6 speeds have the R180. R180 is a bigger casing and so should the internals be so I highly doubt the R160 parts can be used inside a R180.

If you still have the R180 4.44 from your Type R you should be able to remove the LSD unit and bolt it to the crown wheel of your 3.54 R180 but that would require to check that the preloads are still within spec. Easier to find a correct diff and just swap it over.

Be aware that the plated diffs can be badly worn, the 3.9 I got with my JDM 6 Speed was pretty much like an open diff.

Ah ok, so a r180 plated diff from like a Jdm newage etc, 4.44 and 3.9 diff I should be able to just swap the internals and make it into a 3.54

Should of just bought a Jdm 6 speed dccd set up instead lol, instead of a uk dccd 6 speed set up :(

It should be possible but you really need to know what you're doing regarding preloads, backlash and tooth patterns. You could always let an expert do it for you but then again it would probably be cheaper and easier to source a proper plated 3.54 R180.

I wouldn't do it myself.
That's the problem what exact car has a 3.54 r180 plated as standard? Hawk?

Hawkeye STI UK/EU 2006. I think they got the torsen type diff in 2007. I'm not 100% on this info but that's what I've found searching for it.

Apparently there are different part numbers for the R180 3.54 diff with the first being the plated.
27011AB020, 06/2005 - 06/2006

Ok thanks for that mate ill look into it.

Yes the hawk 2006 seems to have 354 torsen diff
