Car not starting after changed clutch line
Hi any ideas why my car won't start it's a jdm blob so have to push clutch down to start fit started after I replaced clutch line for a braided one , when it wouldn't start I replaced the slave cylinder and bled it could there be air in system still the pedal feels good untill about 3/4 up then it springs back
Think you've two problems there possibly. Clutch needs bleed properly and afaik the clutch switch is down at the pedal box. Now you've maybe disturbed it or knocked the wire of the starter when changing slave cylinder.
Ok thanks mate what do reckon I could have done to the clutch switch
Disturbed it in some way you may get on the hands and knees and have a look :)
Had look couldn't see anything wrong , I also pushed in the clutch switch all way then tried starting it and still dint start
Have you checked the wire going to the solenoid on the starter motor you may have disturbed that when putting slave cylinder on.
Il check tomorrow it's weird I go to start it the lights dim then nothing
You sure batterys ok or the starters not stuck.
Yer il have a look tomorrow I got a spare one
Sounds like a duff battery or maybe disturbed a earth.
do a voltage check on the battery is the starter clicking ( solenoid ) when turning the key? |
I put a multi metre on the battery and it had 12.6v then turned ignition on and was 11.7v does this sound ok
Probably not far away with a half decent battery but that's not the way its done. Have you checked the small wire on the starter put the meter on it and get someone to try and start the car and see do you get battery voltage.
Ok so do reckon it's a good battery? What sort of reading should I get when try start it
Went to crank it and it stayed at 11.7v , could it be I had an alarm fitted last week toad one thing is I don't try start it all week so not sure when it stopped starting but iv tried everything it must be the alarm
Check the small wire on the starter while trying to start if theres battery voltage its the starter or if theres not its possibly your alarm.
Ok thanks , what do reckon it be if there no power as iv checked all fuses
Get in touch with who fitted your alarm.
Alarm won’t stop it cranking. Sounds like your battery is flat. Charge the battery first.
Its an aftermarket alarm you can pick and choose which way you want to immobilise them, fuel pump, starter, ignition, etc
Anyone know where I can find wiring diagrams or could tell me what these plugs do , the alarm fitter said someone has had a alarm fitted before but made right mess of it

These are with the 2 green diagnostic clips there is a small male one at highest then below next to diagnostic ones is 2 small black male ones and a larger white male one the car is a 53 jdm Impreza sti with central locking extra

Yer tried that it's constant weather door open closed ignition on etc , it's such a mess , alarm fitter useless need try fix this he said alarm working as it should he saying something wrong with the car
Just found out that those 2 small ones are for reprogramming central locking and should stay unplugged so it's got nothing to do with them
If you have a set of jump leads, you can manually make the starter motor turn over to check the battery life.
loosen the starter motor and rock it or put the car in gear and rock back and fore. If you hear a clunk then the starter pinion gear was stuck in the flywheel. As you say the lights dim when trying to crank the engine says to me the starter is engaged. This puts the highest load on the battery thus dimming the lights.

Not had time to look into this further , will do at weekend but would a failed neutral position sensor cause it to not start I was told it was failing about a year ago

Voltage to the solenoid with ignition key in start position?? (otherwise it will be zero) |
