So, for the same cash value what matches the scoob

Thinking of selling up as had the old girl some 12 yrs but when i think about it, for the same value of around £3 - £4k what can you buy that has the same power/grin factor the scoob offers ?

Think thats why i have kept it so long

Tidgy 06 April 2018 01:46 PM

I cant think of anything, all my mates have cupra r's/focus st's/astra vxr's etc etc yawn yawn yawn

the scoob has the whole package, looks/sound/grip and practicality

I'm on my 3rd now and evertime ive sold 1 ive regretted it so I'm keeping this one. loads of spares about for them and loads of specialists around.

I did consider a bmw m5 or supercharged jaguar but I would have got bored of them I reckon.

The Rig 06 April 2018 02:37 PM

Yeah i cant think of a car either, an mx5 isnt practical for me, i ferry about 3 kids lol

will jst have to keep welding the old girl until theres no more original metal ha

Audi TT can be picked up for peanuts now but imo value for money to smile factor and power then the impreza has got to be hard to beat, maybe a leggy or foz would be up there too.

I thought they’d be worth more than 3-4 k these days ??

What spec is it??

If you’re questioning your thoughts then I’d keep it.

On the Ebay, a bit over your budget £4250.00, but sure you can get him down........!

Seriously i know what you mean, nothing ticks all the boxes like a scoob.
So we have gone and bought a low mile WRX auto to keep us going.

We still have the original bought in 2003, believe it or not it's still rot free !!. both finding it harder to drive (clutch), can't bring myself to it sell though.

Bought a red WRX auto for her but the box is playing up.:brickwall

Have got both. Yes the mx5 is fun, but in a completely different way. Don't think I would be happy swapping the Subaru for an mx5.

dpb 06 April 2018 06:38 PM

Only reason anyone ever bought one isnt it

apart from moderately not unattractive and japanese reliablty

Been looking at other brands recently as I've become slightly disenchanted with my wagon project of getting it back to a decent state from the one I got it in.

Nothing comes close spec wise or power wise. Picked it up for £1000, total spend so far incl mechanics bills £2500. So that's £3500 I've spent so far including all services, the car, parts, mechanics, everything.

So it's staying now and I'm going to continue with it.

Mk1 cupra r's are great fun. Had my old one at a stage 2 revo map at 301 bhp. Tyres spun a lot o the front but was great fun. Big boot and 5 doors was practical. Very strong engine as well

wish I could say the same. I had a 2005 mk1 lcr about 3 years ago. Stage 1 at about 260ish. Worst car I've owned. Every week a sensor or coil pack would fail. Was a low milage 50k car aswell. Just sold my blob eye and brought a civic type r fn2. They get alot of bad press and no where near as quick as my blob but good fun and lots of toys standard. Handles and Is just as quick as my ep3 type r's I've owned.

BMW X3 3.0sd. We had a 2007 one and sold it 2 months ago for 4800. 4 wheel drive and stage 1 map had taken it to 350bhp and just over 500lb ft. Grin factor was great as it used to surprise a lot of people on the road.

NotFromSomerset 10 April 2018 03:27 AM

Only thing that get close for that money is a decent hot hatch. 106 Rallye anyone?

The Rig 16 April 2018 03:14 PM

Well, had a play with a Civic Type R 06 plate that had been turbo`d.

kept with me all the way, im running 330 so bang for buck it comes close i reckon ha , not sure on the costs of turbo`ing a type R tho ha

From what I've read it's quite a pricy prospect turbo/supercharging an fn2.

The Rig 16 April 2018 03:29 PM

yeah i ca imagine, it wasnt an FN2 it was an EP3

Fishbowlhead 16 April 2018 03:32 PM

Ah right. Same costs involved I imagine being the same engine in both. You could buy a whole scoobie for the cost of turbo ing an ep3 or fn2.

Cool project though if you can do it yourself I imagine to keep costs down.

The Rig 16 April 2018 03:36 PM

yeah it certainly is worth doing if you have the money and time to do it yourself, it certainly payed off for him as i say, neck and neck , on the track of course .

It sounded nice, spat flames out, yes i was behind it at 1 point lol , one of those cars you need to buy already done i think to keep costs near the 4-5k mark
