Closed deck blocks price

I’m guessing there are no new EJ20 closed deck blocks available anymore and are all now refurb. Only asking as may have a future use for and would like to get a set for usage later down the line. What’s the going rate for a good set, other option may be interested in EJ22 or are they even more rare.

EJ22 are very rare now

The EJ22 as fitted to early Legacy's are not rare at all.
EJ22 does not mean 22B. Many are sold claiming to be from the 22B. Pork pies.
The EJ20 is alive but called FA20 with the DI Toyota tech added.
:D

An ej22t that is still able to use 97mm pistons are like rocking horse **** and very expensive.

bustaMOVEs 31 March 2018 08:45 PM

Ej22t and ej22 odb are 2 very different kettle of fish and the t is very rare now.
You can just about find a ej20 cdb but be prepared to pay silly retail prices.

What would be a reasonable price to pay for a CDB? I've got an engine sitting there waiting to be rebuild that isn't anywhere near the power to need a CDB. If the price is high I may sell it

daveriley123 01 April 2018 09:41 AM

Ej20 or 22?

EJ20

daveriley123 01 April 2018 04:49 PM

Should get between £500 n £700 depending on condition.

ossett2k2 01 April 2018 04:54 PM

£200-500

daveriley123 01 April 2018 05:06 PM

Really? The last few I have come across that have been in usable condition have been in between the price’s stated above

Don’t think anyone would sell one for £200 if they knew what they had. But they’re not rare enough for £600+ either - seems too much.

ossett2k2 01 April 2018 05:34 PM

£200 would be in poor condition.
£500 in unopened and good condition.
Just my opinion and I'm looking for one,I'm sure someone might pay £600+ but not me :)

daveriley123 01 April 2018 05:48 PM

£500 would be for an un-opened block coming from a low mileage running car. Anything in between would be for an opened fully inspected n stress tested block.

ossett2k2 01 April 2018 06:02 PM

Fair comment.
A wise man once said to me;price is subjective.

daveriley123 01 April 2018 06:29 PM

If only we all met this wise man in our early 20s... he would have saved us all a fortune 😩

:lol1:

I know!
I only met him today

bustaMOVEs 01 April 2018 07:01 PM

Cdb's are going for silly money nowadays imo.

domino46 01 April 2018 07:52 PM

gave £50 for my ej20 CDB but that was a few years ago now lol (starting to feel old lol)

scoobypaul_temp 01 April 2018 07:56 PM

Given the prices being quoted here, how much do closed deck inserts cost instead?

Sorry, please explain? If I have a Block already, why not get Closed deck converted? Are you saying they fail?

johnlogie 02 April 2018 02:14 AM

Well I’ve had my SCD block running 500+ for a while. Ok so maybe not in anger for a lot of it but running around 1.85 bar of boost. I did wonder about closed decking it. Maybe Ayln can comment and give a price?

daveriley123 02 April 2018 08:12 AM

I can’t understand how people think £500 for a block is expensive. Look at the work that goes into making one. £700+ for a fuel rail setup is my idea of silly money or £300+ for a reverse scoop made out of ****ty material.

ossett2k2 02 April 2018 09:06 AM

If it was £500 for a brand new block then fair enough, most cdb's that are for sale are old engines that have run over 100k,and require work before the build.
£500 for a cdb that's had work, from and engine builder,to get it mint before the build,Fair enough.
Not sure what a block has to do with buying fuel rails and bonnet scoops??
You can buy a brand new with forged internals scdb in a crate with zero miles for £2k.

daveriley123 02 April 2018 09:13 AM

they don’t, just comparing between them as I can see £500 for a good cdb but think the huge prices of other items are ridiculous.

MOTORS S GT 02 April 2018 09:33 AM

No real use for 2.0 cdb's with totally unknown history when you can buy new thick wall scd blocks at good money, that perform as good.

ossett2k2 02 April 2018 09:40 AM

But You are comparing apples and oranges. @daveriley
Bottled water is expensive when you can get it cheaper from the tap,tap water is expensive when you can get it free from the sky.
What's this got to do with a cdb?
Feck all lol
