Alcatek vs Esl
Currently running my v2 on esl and im feeling the need for AL and Launch after a few 1/4 mile session last year. After waiting four years for the esl motor sports option I've given up. Other than the motor sport options is the alcatek as good as the esl? Any differences in mapping costs? cheers Steve |
Had an alcatek on my wrx, the live map changing is great for overtakes :)
|
Live mapping on esl :)
Motorsport pack works really well on the v3/4,really surprised it's not out for v1/2 after all this time,I know the v5/6 esl was in testing but that's old news, the v1/2 motorsport was supposed to follow? I'm thinking of going avcs and I'm pretty sure esl doesn't support this,Maybe in the future?alcatek does. I've heard it's hard to contact Andy leech and am unsure if the self mapping kit is readily available? Edit:just re-read is that live map switching @Pross,as in changing the full map on the fly? Is this done on a switch? |
if i had 500 quid to spend on an ecu id be going towards LINK ecu or something more mainstream.
ESL and alcatek are only as good as there founders and well, do some googling and you will see. i got my ESL ecu, cable and software for £250. id never pay full price for it. there no guarantee that they wont pull the plug once they feel its not profitable anymore. TBH, cant really fault ESL personally other than a few glitches in software and zero support from the facebook page as i dont have an invoice. pretty sure alcatek does avcs. try simtek, i hear good things about simtek. |
as in changing the full map on the fly? Is this done on a switch? |

You cant get alcatek at the minute and they are offering zero technical support as they are having some sort of problem. I have an engine being built and tried to buy one from bob rawle, i have to go for link g4+
|
Link or syvecs if your flush and want the best.

Thanks gents that's just the kind of feed back I was looking for. No wonder alcatek units are coming up for sale regularly. There's not many options available for early imprezas it seems. I wouldn't have bought the ESL in the first place if I knew the forthcoming motor sport pack was just talk. |
Would I be able to add pops and bangs if I got the software. I'm interested in learning and data logging
|
Ive tried many times to get pops and bangs on esl without motorsport but nothing substantial or predictable imo.
So my answer would be no. |

'Pops and bangs' were mapped onto mine, drove like crap, strange thing is the mapper l also fitted als switch so his poor attempt at pops and farts were a waste of time.
Not sure if I posted the tables up for people to have a laugh at :wonder: |

thank you for your advice and experiences, I can tell by your esl related posts that you are clearly the expert on esl. Would you be able to map my car? Thanks Far from an expert mate. I'm no pro and will only map my own cars. Plenty of good reading on the forum and the esl user manual tho to diy. Andy also does a mapping course occasionally,I might get on the next one in May I think?

Was it hard to do

Not really, just takes time, loads of logging and small changes at a time.
Be loads easier/quicker on a dyno but road mapping is fun on a decent quiet and safe stretch of road :thumb: |
I would suggest reading the esl manual a few times if that's the route you are taking.
Also some really helpful members on here who I've had great advice from, bludgod, the rig,Ben Harris, piehole and others :) |
