Legacy Gearbox Change

Hi,

I have an old 07 Legacy 2.0 and I need to change the gearbox could anybody tell me please whether I need to match the transmission type code to the new one or can I put any in or are there a certain batch of codes I can use? Thanks any help appreciated.

With the limited model/engine spec info supplied, can only give a vague reponse.

It's always simplest to replace like for like as changing a box outwith the transmission code can require a change in rear diff as well.
however the code includes a model year marker - the 8th character.
for example
TY757XTCAB - MY06
TY757XTDAB - MY07

Thanks for the reply, looks like the one I'm after is as rare as Hen's teeth, I've been keeping an eye out for one for a while. Thanks again. I'll keep looking.

Hi,

It's a TY757VTCAB.

Cheers

You would be correct in that respect - only listed/fitted to the MY06 (10th character of the VIN = 6; MY07 would have a 7 as the 10th character of the VIN)
If it's not a MY06 PM me the VIN and I can check what should be fitted

A possible option......
TY757VTCAB where V: Full-time AWD 5MT single range with viscous coupling center differential
TY757XTCAB where X: Full-time AWD 5MT dual range with viscous coupling center differential

2003 Legacy

Hi,

I have a similar problem. My central diff has died with gearbox code TY754XRBAB. I've found a replacement Impreza box TY754XR4AA. I can't work out the difference indicayed by the last 3 characters. I assume it will fit since it is dual range and from an EJ20, but best to know I'm wrong now rather than when the thing appears on a pallet!

Thanks for any help .

TY754XRBAB was used in MY01/02 /03 2.0L N/A Legacy's
TY754XR4AA was used in the 2.0L MY03 N/A Impreza

Unfortunately although the TY754X part is the same, denoting casing construction etc., so externally will look the same, the last 4 characters determine the internal specifics.
They "appear" to have the same front diff ratio of 3.900, same gear ratios and same centre diff (38913AA100)

So it seems to be a goer?

Do you have a view on swapping just the central diff versus the whole gearbox?
