Most frightening film scene
Might be my claustrophobia, but buried alive in Kill Bill scares the bejesus out of me:eek:
|
Buzz Lightyear when he whipped out his laser
|
Evil Dead, when Ash’s girlfriend possessed sitting on floor laughing
|
Alien, when the guys in the ducting with a flamethrower, when he turns around and.....
|
The original Nosferatu. Still a surprise 90 years later.
|
you had to be at the cinema to get the full effect but the holed boat bottom scene in Jaws, skeletons head floats out, everybody's wondering where the shark is! the whole cinema gasped and it was packed then for those early first performances.

Trev take a dip in the ocean and hum the tune to yourself............. |
- Exorcist III. Where you see the nurse walk past the corridor, in the distance. Then, just when you're not expecting it, the killer zooms past after her, arms outstretched. Accompanied by your classic **** scary, loud soundtrack.
First time I saw that, I nearly had a heart attack. - Jaws. Head out of the boat hull. It was very similar to the above, in terms of staging, timing, etc. (But Jaws was obviously first lol.) - The US version of The Ring. The bit where she opens the closet, and sees her friend has been scared to death. That face! *shudder* |
- Salem's Lot. The floating boy outside the window.
- The Shining. The twin girls. Plus Jack's tortured grin, when he froze to death. And the 'RED RUM' scene. - The Omen. Where he goes back to pick up the knives, and Damien makes the lorry's handbrake release, it rolls back and pushes a sheet of glass (which you're not really aware of - hard to see) through the bloke's neck, decappitating him, and the head spinning in slo-mo above the pane. - Omen II. When the black guy in the lift gets cut in half with the cables (that pesky Damien again lol). The effect is insane - I think they used intestines from a (deceased) horse(?) |
The scene in Grave Encounters where the guy is doing a piece to camera, and behind him, in the corridor, and empty wheelchair moves, in the dark.....

last couple of minutes of Paranormal Activity
|
Anyone remember the 80s ITV series called Armchair Thriller? The title sequence itself was scary as ****, as a kid.
Plus the eps. called 'Quiet As A Nun', where the woman goes up into the loft, and there's a nun in a rocking chair with her face covered in black, IIRC. There was another eps. where a bloke was killed and was put in a cupboard. When the body was discovered the skin was pale green. Was scary as a kid lol. Another eps. 'Ransom Of A Poodle' lol. I have recollection of a dead poodle floating in the sea??? Once again, scary as a kid :D |

Apocalypse Now. When they cut that cow in half. Plus when the PoW gets beheaded. Then they casually lob his head in the other prisoner's lap - but he can't get rid of it because he's tied to a tree, in the cross-legged position.
|
The Blair Witch Project. The chaotic ending, when the boy is in the corner facing the wall, amongst all the mayhem.

Anyway, whatever, pretty rank. |
Final scene in Carrie (1976) when she goes to lay the flowers. Whole cinema jumps.
Several scenes in Drag Me to Hell (2009). Thing is, these scenes work best in the cinema, they're never quite as frightening at home on a small screen... |

Tales of the Unexpected used to get to me.
But film wise, I watched a short one once where a guy got stuck in a telephone box. Over the period of a few hours various attempts were made to free him - all failed. In the end, the telephone company came and took the box away with him stood in it. He was taken to some big underground warehouse. The box was picked up by a grabber and eventually ended up in a room. The room was full of lots of other telephone boxes with people in them. They were as fresh as he was, all the way to skeleton. La cabina |
Poltergeist when the kid is in bed counting how far away the thunderstorm is. Gets spooked and then the Clown suddenly appears on the chair at the end of his bed. Still scares me today!
|
maybe more brutal, but certainly frightening. the baseball bat scene in the field from casino when they kill nicky and his brother and bury them still breathing.
|
and MOST frightening scene ? pick any one you like from cool as ice starring vanilla ice, truly frightening.

La cabina Yes! I first remember seeing it on BBC2 late Friday night - probably back in the late-80s. I also watched it about 5 years ago - as I remembered it and seeked it out. |

Plus the comedic one where Joan Collins gets stuck in an expensive sculpture and they cut (implied) her head off. Royal Jelly: The one where Timothy West turns into a bee! LOL Lamb To The Slaughter was the best eps. |
