Engine Swap

Hi,

Is it possible to swap an ej20 STI engine from a 2003-2005 subaru impreza to a 1992-2000 classic impreza which is already with an ej20 (broken).
If yes, do i need to buy another gbox or I can use the same one which I already have on it.

I presume I would need to buy a new loom with the new engine.

Which engine mounts would you recommend if the engine swap is possible?

Thank you

Thanks

It will fit onto your gearbox as long as you use the clutch & flywheel from your current engine.
As for the wiring loom you have a couple of choices.
Listed price wise 1 being the cheapest, 3 being the most expensive.

1. Use the cylinder heads off your current engine transplanted onto the EJ257 block, that would make it a simple plug and play wiring wise.
Or
2. To fit the EJ257 long engine complete with avcs, you would also need from the same model of car,
Full wiring harness.
ECU.
Ignition switch & key.
Also you would need to make sure the engine was complete with,
Inlet manifold
Throttle body
Injectors
Icv
Coil packs
Maf etc, as none of these from your car are compatible with the 257 heads.
Or
3. Stand alone aftermarket ECU and get a custom wiring harness made to suit the heads. Then map the ECU.

Engine mounts, my preference for a road car is the o.e Subaru mounts, if the car is for track use then any group n variant would be more suited.

absolutely correct.
Well apotted .... you passed the test 😁
I did mean 207, and all the info is directed at a 207 swop.
Lets call it a typo instead of an old messed up brain

I see you are referring to the 2.5 engine right when you refer to EJ257 - What I meant is the modern ej20 from a 2003-2005 impreza to a classic impreza which is already with an ej20.
Thank you

Dennis

That is exactly what Trev was correcting me on Dennis.

The info i wrote is referring to to the 2 litre STI (EJ207) but for whatever reason my fingers were typing EJ257 which is indeed the 2.5 and not what I meant to type
