Spare fuses, or one I can piggyback in Hawkeye?

I want to fit a USB socket for charging phones in my 2006 Hawkeye WRX (UK Spec), but want it to look as close to factory fit as possible. You have all been so helpful so far so figured better post before I make a monumental mistake! :)

My thoughts are to buy one of these fuse piggyback to either piggyback a current fuse, or if there is a spare (preferred) fuse location use that, then connect it to one of these USB 12v to 5v and some kind of flush USB socket somewhere, perhaps under the armrest or in the glovebox.

Please can anyone help me identify which fuses on the car have power only when ignition is on and are safe to piggyback? Or suggest a better option :)

You could tap into the front accessory power supply socket (used to be cigarette lighter :) ). It is live when ignition in the accessory (ACC) and ignition positions.

For safety you can add an inline fuse holder to the converter +ve feed.
Have done this myself for the 5v feed to a Road Angel Gem

Thanks, I did wonder if that was an option but wrote it off quite quickly in my head as I didn't like the idea of damaging the wiring in a fit of rage when I couldn't get it to work. I'll give it a go and if all goes bad I'll at least feel like I can blame someone else :lol1:

My lad did this in a Clio 197 sport.

It worked well until his garage had to remove his gearbox and ripped the wiring out by accident.....
