Royal Steering Wheels

big shout out to Jack at Royal Steering Wheels (http://royalsteeringwheels.com/!

Superb quality, good comms, and delivery on time as promised all at a very reasonably price too.

They do both replacement and exchange. I went for exchange on my hawk sti wheel, you pay a deposit, but it means the car is only off the road for the 20 mins or so it takes to swap out the wheels.

The previous owner of my car smoked and now it's so nice not to have my hands stinking of smoke after driving it! :thumb:

For anyone thinking of replacing the steering wheel you'll need:

- 10mm spanner to disconnet the battery
- T27 (I think) torx wrench
- Rachet spanner + torque wrench (to re-tighten the main steering wheel nut)
- small flat blade screwdriver to release the drivers airbag harness connetor
- Philips cross head to remove the screws that hold the rear plastic steering wheel cowl to the wheel

With everything to hand it's not even a 20 mins job!

Jack @ Royal retrimmed by E46 M3 wheel..It looked amazing when it refitted it..It took years off the interior and made the car feel really nice to drive..A bit like having a new car..Retrimming the contact surfaces is a really nice upgrade

What sort of money are you looking to have an STI wheel retrimmed in alacantara or similar?

Without being too specific I paid between 100 and 150 for what I think is a black split leather, so alcantara would be more I guess. Best to email them directly for the latest prices.

Another thumbs up for Royal Steering wheels :thumb:

I had mine retrimmed in black alcantara with black stitching, very good quality and an easy company to use.
As said above it’s an easy swap too.

Looks ace! Alcantara is a nice change to make. :thumb:

Might be a daft question, but what's with gear shifter!?

It’s a CAE shifter, designed for track use as they’re sprung loaded to help stop miss shifts.
It places the gear knob closer to the steering wheel and confines the shifting to approx. 55mm x 55mm square.

I’m looking at getting my hawkeye wheel re-trimmed, can you give me an idea of the cost as really fancy an Alcantara wheel.

That cost me £160 for black alcantara with black stitching.

My E46 M3 wheel cost £129 last summer... That was for perforated sides, nappa top and bottom and the ///M tri-colour stitching..

Another vote for Jack here, thanks to Modrich for the idea, looks much nicer than the standard Blob WRX wheel :thumb:

I used to live near Royal and popped my my97 plastic wheel up to him a couple of years ago. Great job with mix of perforated and plain leather. I can’t imagine the wheel how it used to be now. Or why I went so long with the plastic!

I am really impressed and wish I had changed it sooner!

RobsyUK 08 February 2019 10:55 AM
