Sticky oil pressure gauge
My oil pressure gauge has been getting increasingly sticky. I've narrowed the problem down to the gauge itself using the recognised cutting edge diagnostic technique of knocking the gauge pod with my hand and observing the needle coming up to where it should be.
Any suggestions what the problem could be? Is it likely to be fixable or is it easier to just get a replacement gauge? I have never actually fitted a gauge pod so I've no idea how easy they are to remove/dismantle/service/replace individual gauges. Any advice welcome :thumb: |
What make gauge?
It MIGHT be the gauge, but it might be something as simple as the wiring from the sender to the gauge not being firmly connected: Prosport are little b*ggers for that. |
It's a Dragon gauge fitted to a hawkeye.
Is it simple enough to pop the gauge pod off the dash? Is it just held in with clips? |
No clue. Some are force fit, some have internal brackets.
Try Googling them, see if there are any fitting instructions online. |
I had a look online last night and they seem to be held in with half a dozen or so clips. Hopefully I'll get it out without breaking them - maybe wait for the weather to warm up a bit so they're not so brittle in sub zero temps!
The gauges are only around £20 so I'll probably buy a new one before I do anything else. One of those jobs that if I remove the pod, find it is the gauge, refit the pod while I wait for a new gauge to arrive, then remove the pod again......something will break on the second removal and I'll be cursing just not spending £20 in the first instance. |
Or cursing when it all comes out like clockwork and was the wiring?
I'd be checking before spending any dosh. Then, if it's something simple, have a new gauge for something else? Mine has five now.....:D |
