Slow puncture advice
 

I've had my winter wheels on for a few months now and one tyre has a persistent slow puncture. It loses 10psi a week. Is it worth having the tyre refitted with a new valve or am I better having a different tyre fitted? I've previously ran the wheels as dailys without issue so I'm confident they aren't damaged .

If it was me i'd just replace the tyre and the valve.

Is it a puncture?
Might also be valve, badly fitted tyre (rim not clean when fitted, not sealed properly) or even a porous wheel?

I'd have it to a DECENT tyre place, let them do it. NOT KwikFit LOL

I've done about 50k on these wheels before they were relegated to winters and have been laid up since last March. So I'm kinda ruling out wheel damage although I guess they could have deteriorated. I have another spare set of Nokian WR D4s so I may as well fit one of those, seeing as it will be the same labour. Just pumped it up now - it's lost 6 psi since Saturday. It could have a nail in it but not that I could see.

Role on April when I can put the summers back on!

just a suggestion but if you had a tub of water big enough to submerse it or part of it, with it losing that much you'd see where the issue was.

more than likely a rim clean needed where the tyre bead sits. Do 3 of these a day easily at work. A new valve wouldn't go amiss.

make sure the bead area is sanded flat, and free of flaking paint and flaky paint. Should be fine

As above Find the leak!

Leak detector spray or fairy liquid (or anything that foams) in a trigger gun spray all over including rims then wait for the bubbles.

Bets on,as mentioned its the rim leaking on the bead. Corroding aluminium and bubbling paint allows air to escape between the rim and tyre. Even on alloys that look mint, they can be heavily corroded on the bead.

Tyre replacement is only needed if puncture is too close to the edge or the sidewall is damaged...that includes internal damage which can happen if driven underinflated.

It might be best then to get the tyre removed so I can inspect the bead surface and remedy myself.

It would help if I got my Bug Mot'd so I had 2 cars to use....

Leaking valve was obvious once I had the wheel removed. Tyre place replaced it free of charge (can't be bothered to ring it through the till....). Couldn't see anywhere else where bubbles were forming or air escaping but having checked the pressure a day after the new valve, it's still going down but at a slower rate....:Whatever_

Not much longer now until I can refit my summer wheels then I'll think about getting the winters refurbed or replaced.
