chevron motorsport - my experience

so for the last 2 weeks my car has been at chevron motorsport having alot of work done which included the following....

-fit DAMD flat bottom steering wheel
-fit new yoko advan tyres all round
-fit godspeed g-hook discs all round along with new pf pads and dot 5.1 fluid
-remove the knackered old hsd coilovers and offer alternative options, i went for tein flex z coilovers
-fit castor bush kit
-fit bump steer kit
-fit camber bolts
-change gearbox oil
-change engine oil and filter
-full fast road set up

now i set simon and the team a budget but along the way it was clear my car needed a few more things, new droplinks were needed along with new brake shoes and rotten rear back plates being removed so my budget went out the window, i asked simon what else my car would benefit from whilst he had it in pieces so he suggested front and rear whiteline arb's aswell........budget was a distant memory at this point.

simon and the team kept me updated with the price and never did anything extra without clearly explaining why and also the price, they were not pushy at all and i was also sent some pictures of the ride height to make sure i was happy.

the car now drives like an impreza should,i have complete confidence in it,the turn in is pin-sharp and the tein coilovers are not rock solid either, yes there is a little bounce from them on really rough roads but other than that they soak up the road with ease and dont shatter your spine. i have had bc's in the past which are around the same price but total ****e in my opinion. anybody looking for a set of road friendly coilovers that wont break the bank should certainly look at the teins and get them set up by somebody who knows what they are doing.

im a little disappointed with the discs and pads, simon and i both share the same thoughts that there is no initial grab from them but that could be the fact they are new and need bedding in (they have only done 50 miles so far on the motorway).

i have got to pop back in a few weeks once the car has settled so simon can adjust the setting if needed, he also said that he will take me out in it and show me just how much grip i have :D :D :D

anybody looking for a specialist who is truly trust worthy and honest and doesnt try to sell you **** you dont need should pay a visit to chevron.

all in all................****ing awesome :thumb::thumb::thumb:

Ordered turbo from them for turbo landed oil or water pipes oe wouldn’t fit the w turbo
We rang a few times to get the pipes he didn’t appear interested at all four weeks later managed to source them from Owens who first refused deal direct with me
Wouldn’t order a wiper mate from either chevron nor Owens for as long a I have performance vehicles

Apart from the Teins, what else did they suggest?

he didnt actually suggest the teins, he suggested height adjustable bilstein dampers but they were out of my budget so i asked about coilovers and he mentioned teins so i said put them on.

bump steer kit
castor bushes
new droplinks as mine were shot

he said front and rear arb's could be done at a later date but i said whilst he had the car he may aswell put them on

Don't take it personal , you'll find most are just after £ , very few trust worthy people this day & age , trying to sell something that's not needed or if it doesn't go to plan all kindness & back patting goes south of the river .

jazzyjembreaze 10 February 2018 08:41 PM

Glad you got the car sorted shreksta, you can't expect to rate a disk & pad combo on 50 miles of motorway tho , give it a week or so then let us know your thoughts lol

PT82 10 February 2018 08:52 PM

I've got the same discs and pads and am not very impressed to be honest.
Used PF RH665 brake fluid aswell.

Dannymot 10 February 2018 09:26 PM

I also had my suspension replaced by chevron and was met with the same great service on my gc8 sti.
I had full alk, roll centre kit bilstien b14(my suggested suspension) with Whiteline top mounts camber bolts etc and new anti roll bars and links.
The work was swift of good quality and I was kept up to date with everything the car is now awesome to drive on track.

Can I ask what car this is on please, year and power?

Reason being, I am literally just about to order the godspeed discs and PF-Z pad package for my 420bhp blob but now a little concerned over your comments. Did you use the solid discs on the front or the 2 piece?

I have Godspeed 2 piece disks and PF pads on my 500bhp classic and they work perfect. Proper bed in procedure as per god speed is 450 miles. No issues with mine what so ever

Thanks, good to know. I was going to go with the 1 piece discs as my budget wont stretch to the extra £300 it costs for 2 piece but at the same time I dont want to be left disappointed so may pay the extra

I’m happy with them so far mate but haven’t used them on track yet. That will be the real test!

Hawkeye sti @ 351bhp

Perhaps I was to quick to dismiss them, everyone is telling me they need bedding in so I'm sure they will be fine.

Mine are the 1 piece g-hook discs with pf pads

To bed the brakes in you need to do 250 -300 miles of normal A and B road driving , do not purposely use the brakes hard in this time, once you have done 250- 300 miles you can start braking from speed, brake down hard from 70-20 on a clear road , do not stop still, carry on driving to cool them off , do this 5-6 times and they will be ready to use , you may get some brake fade at first when you push them hard this is normal

Lol, someone who can actually tell the difference in mediocre discs lol, I've said it loads over years, cheap low grey iron!
But no doubt he will come along and direct away from discs, lifetime warranty, blah.......

bonesetter 11 February 2018 11:14 AM

It wont be the PF-Z pads letting things down.

I've ran them on 4 Scoobies now, over some 6 years. They are strong performers and pitch well above most others

Edit: 50 motorway miles are and next to zero bed-in is your issue there

.

I was also told not to keep your foot on the peddle when stationary as this can cause hot spots.

This is exactly what is on our fitting and bedding in instructions, stapled to your invoice .

I wouldnt expect the brakes to give you much bite with only 50 miles of motorway miles on them , you need to bed them in , then do the hard stops , and after they have cooled overnight there will be a big improvement to what your experiencing now.

The PF pads are a very capable pad , and work very well even on the track :thumb:

Cheers Ian

So come on then , in your vast experience of many disc makes , what are the differences in discs , you have no idea in the content of the discs we use , spurting ' cheap low grey iron ' is just making you look an idiot !

How are my brakes on your car :thumb:

Thanks Ian

I guess I was just excited to get my car back and expected it to stop on a penny, I will dig the invoice out and have a read.

What a pig-headed oaf I am lol

Well I wouldn't go that far lol
You'd be surprised how many people think they can fit new brakes and drive hard on them straight away , which is why we include a fitting sheet , which basically are tips on cleaning the hubs ect , but also bedding in instructions at the bottom .
I can guarantee you they will be very different once the bedding in procedure has been completed.

I'm quite surprised the garage didn't tell you about bedding them I , it's as important as running a new engine in
Cheers Ian
