White Hawkeye STi - from a daily to a track toy

Hi guys I’m Dan, Iv been on the forum a while now but never really put up anything about my car properly so thought I would now..

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...d17df1886.jpeg

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...f293602cb.jpeg

Iv had the car about 6 years now and started off as a daily driver, I believe the old owner was on the forum also, when I bought the car it was running 460bhp. To be honest since owning the car it’s been a right pain in the arse but I haven’t let it put me off and took the car in my own direction.

Firstly a couple of months into ownership the cylinder liner decided to **** itself leaving me with lovely engine build costs, at that point I decided to go from the already MD321T turbo to the 321V, closed deck block, uprated Zen performance rad/oil cooler, 1000cc injectors and a remap to see me 500bhp.

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...c737710e7.jpeg

Unfortunately that turbo lasted about 8k before it decided to **** itself, what should have been a warranty repair was blamed on “Oil Starvation” pffft ok lol.

At this point I thought ah what the hell I might as well just carry on with the modifying and turn it into a track toy.. the next lot of photos are from the last couple of years to get to the point I am at now.. it’s easier to just post the pics rather than babble on..

It’s been a long hard journey but definitely worth it !! Should also be in next months Banzai magazine so there’s a better description and better photos in there. If anyone’s interested my instagram is Danagram_STi I’m slowly updating that with past progress.
Thanks for reading :)

Lovely car, friend of mine mentioned it to me when he was at Zen recently

sonic93 04 February 2018 10:21 PM

Lovely car

What spec engine you go?

scoobypaul_temp 04 February 2018 11:12 PM

Looks cracking - good on you for not giving up after your run of 'bad luck' :thumb:

Looks like you have had your AP's colour coded to match Brembos - where did you get that done bud?

Paul

rickybobby 04 February 2018 11:52 PM

Who did your flocking, would love to get mine done

bloomydj 05 February 2018 08:35 AM

Cheers guys,
brief spec.. forged 2.5 closed deck, cossie pistons, farndon billet crank, arrow rods with Stock STi heads, I would have fully built the heads but that’s all the budget would allow at the time.

I did the brakes myself Paul, it’s not a perfect match but not far off at all, it’s honda Inca gold, took me about 4/5 evenings after work to fully prep and paint them.

Thomas and Vine (flocking.co.uk) did my flocking and did an awesome job can’t recommend them enough and reasonably priced too, think it was about £270 for the dash, glove box and centre console etc.

Scooby5tu 05 February 2018 11:42 AM

Looks great, nice one!

mike112 05 February 2018 04:40 PM

Very nice:):):thumb::thumb: really like it.

By the way what radiator over flow can are you using?

BrownPantsRacing 05 February 2018 05:39 PM

I love this. Very nice indeed.

bloomydj 05 February 2018 05:48 PM

Thanks again guys :)

I’m using a custom one Mike, its riveted on and holds just over half a litre I’d say.. here’s a more up to date pic..

jazzyjembreaze 05 February 2018 08:57 PM

Ps , lateral never seem to honour a blown turbo , always this or that from my experience. Glad it didn’t phase you tho :)

mike112 06 February 2018 12:57 AM

Cheers mate, thank you for the information:thumb:

bustaMOVEs 06 February 2018 07:06 PM

Nice built car.
Well another lateral drama........ hence I stay away from md turbos as I was going to get the v motorsports one but I've heard too many dramas.

Is that a 7670 efr you're running ?

bloomydj 06 February 2018 09:57 PM

Cheers Jazzy !

Thanks Busta, yea it’s a 7670 efr with a garret v band exhaust housing, had the rcm headers v banded to suit custom uppipe

BrownPantsRacing 07 February 2018 08:44 AM

I think this could be my perfect impreza now. You've done everything I'd want to do and it just looks perfect.

What's next on the cards for this then? Gotta be there now surely ?

Cheers buddy means a lot, life has been tough the last few years so having this to work on and keep me occupied has kept me on the straight and narrow. Next.. to be honest I think that’s it for now, tracks days planned to get a starting point with the geometry and go from there, this Sunday I’m at snetterton so really looking forward to that :)

BrownPantsRacing 07 February 2018 10:16 AM

Everyone has to have something to keep them sane during difficult times. I can totally relate to that. I have a 63 beetle sat in the garage that I never get to drive and the modified Foz STI which is my daily. Gotta have toys and projects!

Great work. Good luck at Snetterton. You'll have to let us know how you get on.

bloomydj 07 February 2018 11:42 AM

Awesome I love the old beetles, and the forester STi, id definitely have one for a daily. Cheers I will do.. Iv got myself a tyre pressure gauge and a temp gun to monitor things throughout the day.. il probably look like a right tool but it’ll be fun haha

Been a while since updated etc. Not used the car much, got out to japfest a couple of weeks ago. Now planning on having a cage fitted along with loom done and whatever weight saving possible at the time. When will it all stop:cry::lol1:

Marky1968 20 May 2019 07:07 PM

I love your car mate, looks awesome in white.

Very special, a very nice car to drive I bet...… :thumb:

Mike L 20 May 2019 10:05 PM

Love a white hawk nice build.

Do you have a turbo oil feed filter? I have seen quite a few turbos on other people cars fail due to small peices of liquid gasket blocking the oil feed to there turbos usually fairly soon after a build!

I have run a filter for years and have never had a turbo issue been running my GT35 for over ten years now. I always recommend one on all the cars i am involved with.

silver-sub 20 May 2019 10:20 PM

What an amazing build!
