johnfelstead 14 June 2002 09:25 PM

are you smoking something richard?

bluto22b 14 June 2002 09:27 PM

Well what do you expect young man ? Its like when an Aston Martin tried it on with me in my Maxi. He couldn't see me for dust (thats when I misjudged the bend and ploughed headlong into the dry muddy field). Must have taken 10 minutes before the cloud of dust settled....Blutes

Richard Askew 14 June 2002 09:31 PM

JF - perhaps you misread my post??

John

I reckon it's all that driving around topless

It's melted his brain LOL :p :)

XRS 14 June 2002 09:38 PM

rsquire's clearly been out of the country too long if he thinks we've seen the sun yet this year.

:D

ChrisB 14 June 2002 09:39 PM

I bet it sounded fantastic as well :D

bluto22b 14 June 2002 09:41 PM

No not really chris, just a sound of screeching tyres and the rumbling of dust and rubble as I hit the field...Blutes

Richard Askew 14 June 2002 09:45 PM

...ChrisB - yeah matey I think he had the challenge spec exhausts done...screamed like a banshee and then crackled as he hit the limiter...

skiddusmarkus 14 June 2002 09:48 PM

Blutes, haven't you got the optional front cow catcher fitted?Clears muddy fields a treat:).

bluto22b 14 June 2002 09:50 PM

No its too expensive.....Blutes

nisr227 14 June 2002 10:22 PM

Try racing one on a 1/4 mile strip and see. I would imagine a STi would be closer most of the time due to the 355's wheelspin and control.

ChrisB 14 June 2002 10:53 PM

LOL @ Bluto :D

Sweeeet Rich! :D

steve McCulloch 14 June 2002 11:17 PM

A friend has a 550 Maranello - to 100 not much in it - above this I start to get left behind...

Certainly not an A-B car - the interior cant take it! and the running costs!!!........

Feel quite large and heavy on the road - quite scary on a country lane cos you think someone coming the other way will hit you - ohhhh yes I have driven it.... the 550 costs about £150k

scottdg 15 June 2002 12:41 AM

Richard, you got the floor mats stuck beneith the throttle or what. 355's are way off the book figures. I used to embarress my mate in his off the lights. OK, above 70-80 they pull you in but nothing a bit more boost can't handle!!!!!

steve McCulloch 15 June 2002 12:43 AM

Even boost does not help you above 120 mph! - then again I'm only running at about 1.4 bar... and other fairly tame mods...NOT

Trout... 15 June 2002 08:28 AM

They are quite nippy.

At the Bedford RMA day on the straights there was nothing in it - maybe I was just a shade faster - but they do do 0-100 in just over ten seconds. As I had superb hot slicks on (tarmac was 38 deg C) I could have passed him on the bendy bits but he refused to move over.

After five laps of being blue flagged at every corner by the marshalls he was politely bollocked for not letting me pass. He came up to me and said - that he thought I was happy to follow his lines - yeah right.

Car now changed just a tad to ensure that next time I will edge him on the straights :D:D:D:D:D

The Ferrari to worry about is the 360 - significantly quicker than the 355.

I don't think so. A F355 will waste a std. Elise from the lights (you do know Richard is referring to his Elise don't you ?)

What makes you think "F355s are way off book", other than your mates car, which may not represent all F355s. ?

Because they're normally aspirated, they don't give you the kick of an Impreza or Skyline, but if you actually time them, they're surprisingly quick, although it takes a brave man to chuck £70K of F355 around at a trackday.

a classic site if you want to know stat's....performance statistics...a 22B is quicker 0-60 than a 355, lotus esprit turbo, aston martin DB7....quite surprising

mike_s14 15 June 2002 01:45 PM

A scoob is only faster to 60 as it has 4 wheel drive...

1/4 mile the 355 would kill it..

pwebb 15 June 2002 03:54 PM

following a 355 from mobberley into hale along country lanes recently in my girlfriend's little hatchback it was evident the ferrari driver couldn't manage more than 40 mph around tight lanes and kept bumping the wheels up onto the small kerb at the side of the road, also taking up more than half the available road space - thus having to slow down each time a car came the other way - despite excellent visibility this meant that any hot hatch etc would be way quicker. I wasn't in my car so couldn't get past (frustrating)as he accelerated hard on all the straight bits.
I have seen cars towing trailers travel faster along that stretch!

From experience, the 355 is no match for an sti up to silly speeds - thereafter I am sure the ferrari would be quicker - but 99% of the time you are not going to be doing anywhere near those sort of speeds anyway.

All of which makes the ferrari pretty lame unless you have your own (wide) racetrack or want to pose around cheshire villages (probably why so many are seen around here).

FWIW I think the ferrari engine note sounds harsh, thrashy and unpleasant - really can't understand why anyone would want one - to me it shouts out ' I have bad taste and a shallow personality, though loads of cash' - you can see people mouthing ' footballer/ lottery winner/ w*nker with small kn*b' when they walk past ferraris in the village - envy maybe ( not in my case) but another good reason why you wouldn't want one!
Probably got nicer sun visors than a scooby though !

Rich... theres a fella with 220bhp+ in his Liz, and its just about as quick to 120 as a 355... after that the Ferrari is gone :(

Astonishing cars really, but like people have said... you rarely see them driven hard because it takes a foolish man to use that power all the time especially on the road. To quote from Spiderman... 'With great power comes great responsibility' :-)

Man you talk some crap, Paul.

However, this makes interesting reading:

I know someone with a ferrari 355, and I f6ucked all over him... He bought it because hes worked hard for his money and its the car he has allways wanted.... First set of light he bogged down... 6500 rpm and sidestep... I said bye bye to him... He soon caught me though...

Then One night in the rain on the ring road, we were neck and neck I out braked him, cornered faster than him....

Its a faster car... end of story... (modifications excluded)

but it all comes down to driver skill / balls or the lack of either...

David

Trout... 16 June 2002 07:31 PM

Bri,

I am not sure what a 'Liz' is - but any car would need very considerable power to beat a Ferrari 355 up to 120. They are extremely quick on that fact there is no getting away from it. IN fact the new 911 Turbo is only on a par with a 355 to 120 and that has 414bhp - 272bhp per tonne.

Of all the cars in with recorded times in Evo magazine 272bhp/tonne is the least power where it is possible to do 10s 0-100.

So I can only assume a 'Liz' weighs less than 800kg!

I don't care wot anyone says but I have a mate with a 360 and anotherone with a lotus V8 turbo and they are pretty matched. but they can't get away or pass from my STI 340 and they have tried.
