2008+ Hatchback or 2010+ Saloon? Both forged!

Sold my Hatch a good few months ago because I was going to get a forged hatch, but have since though about the later saloon.

What’s your views gents and of course ladies?

I liked the hatch would like another, but since learned that the rear seats on the saloon also fold which will help me massively, so I’m now torn... not sure I like the rear on the Saloon, but that said I didn’t like hatch at all when first released so tasted over time do change...

Saloon is facelift front plus gets the Recaro interior as standard, plus thicker ARB's and also the pillow ball rear LCA bushes

Peedee 24 January 2018 06:16 PM

Hatch every day. It’s a personal thing, but I find the 2010+ saloon awful to look at. There’s something about it that’s not quite right, can’t put my finger on it though. Looks slightly less offensive with a spoiler, but still awful!

Eh? I’ve never owned a bugeye. Rich coming from someone who owns a 5hitbox WRX that looks like an advert for ebay bolt-on tat.

Think it gets Active Torque Vectoring too?

Edit: 2015+ only

So undecided then....

How much are saloons these days? Only ask as a mate watched a white STI 2014 go through auctions last week with 33K go for £15.7K. Thought that was a bit of a bargain

I have to have a hatch on all my cars for the practicality ; infact I've never had a saloon in 30 years, come to think of it. Most will prefer one or the other that way, out of habit

It's what has made me need to own multiple Scoobies - wagons (fast dog carrier, and saloon for tarmac terror duties), but the seats do fold on the new saloons

I know what your saying Hedgcutter, I've had both, hatch and saloon and love them both, just wish I had the money to buy another hatch to go with the saloon I have, but that word DIVORCE would be mentioned I'm sure....:D

I went from a Forester

to this

as I didn't need the space anymore

Some very nice motors shown, thanks for sharing.....

Still looking :D

Question I was just thinking about that I can’t find an answer too.

Remapping these cars on the standard ecu, with either open source or Ecutek, what is now available?

My last hatch had launch control, but I don’t believe anti lag was available for it on the open source mapped by Anthony at ADE.

Obviously switchable maps is easy on these cars with the OEM map switch.

What about other options?

Saloon

Hmmh bearing in mind the 2008sti needed a lot changing to sort the shockingly poor handling .... and maybe 1 in 5 went pop ...

Poss the ssloon looks a better proposition as a starting place.

my hatchback handles just fine so what needs changing ? ,, and if there both forged then how many went pop doesn't really matter lol

I went to look at both and went for the hatchback in the end and don't regret it one bit as the boot has helped me out many times now lol

I previously owned a hatch and I'm looking to get another, or maybe the >2010 saloon, but as far as the handling goes it was no worse that the previous <2005 saloons I have owned.

In fact with its uprated ARB's and Poly Bushes (simple upgrade) handled really well on track considering it was a full lardy road car.

That's the only reason I went for my last hatch, but apparently the seats on the newer saloon fold down :thumb:

There's nothing "apparent" about it, they fold down the same as the Hatch seats - 60/40 split.

BrownPantsRacing 31 January 2018 10:44 AM

I have to say I am liking the look of the later 2010-2011 style saloon. I can see me changing my FSTI for one of these if I don't go down the C63 route instead. They look lovely from all angles, more balanced profile than the hatch IMO.

I would also want one that was forged though.

its the extra height that has saved me rather than room as iv got a 5 series bmw that meant to be the work horse but stuff wouldn't fit in but went in the scoob just fine lol
