rebuild the engine with forged rods and pistons is a good sart
Was thinking about the same thing. ,,,
Ah just bought it on 60k and I had a full rebuild at 58 but just used oem Subaru parts. Is this a bad thing I know forged is a lot better how good would a oem rebuild be, likely to fail again?
Who done the build ,,,,
Just enjoy it whilst being ready to get it forged if it goes again; it should be good for awhile without pushing it, but a custom map will make it safer. Bit crazy to rebuild oem though. At that mileage I would refresh the suspension and brakes first, rather than the usual panel filter/exhaust/map upgrade
Be prepaid for needing a forged rebuild as has been said. I would go for forged pistons, con rods, uprated head studs (controversially stock gaskets) at the very least. Otherwise I love the low end torque from a 2.5 lump :-)

Built right its a cracking engine though |
Engine was rebuilt by TD racing just googled them and seen a thread from this site with good feedback Subaru specialist so i reckon they do as good of a job out the oem parts as possible shame it isn’t forged but yeah ile enjoy it while I can. Thinking to just keep it simple then with an pipe and a new map. Any of you guys reccomend a good pipe for these or anywhere to look for one? Thank you |
Tidgy, there is some suggestion now that the 2.5 and diesel failures, which were in the same build period, could be due to the Kobe Steel scandal . However this doesn't explain why others didn't suffer the same. Kobe was/is a major supplier to Subaru.

I’d probably go for a map as previously said. Subaru made a balls up of the standard map they put on the 2.5. Where’s the pics ?

Hi just to say I was running my hatch @ 360 bhp on all standard inturnals till my build was done but think i was one of the lucky ones as on stip down Big ends where ready to let go so as to say regular oil change and keep an eye on all your levels. Is the right way.
