6K or Z4 Ecu

Hi all i am currently running a Z4 on my 95 wrx import. Have been told this is 260 bhp. I have been offered a 6K which is supposedly 280 bhp. Am told its a straight swap with instant power gains. Plug in and play. Is this true and is it safe to run?

Mods are TD05 16g, K&N type filter, full 3 inch decat, walboro 255 pump. Front mount waiting to be fitted. Whats your thoughts.

Quick use of the search button found this

I was curious to the answer as well so I had a look. I would say its a straight swap but not ideal due to various issues

But I do know you cannot straight map a standard early version ecu and would need a ESL board at the least.
But if your doing that just ESL your ECU especially with the mods you have it will need a remap already or its just a ticking time bomb

Thanks for the reply, I already have a spare ecu with an esl board, but have not used it as i cannot get it mapped due to living in the Channel Islands so its not much use to me. Are you saying my car is not safe running its current Z4?? it has been in it for a few years now without any issues.

For the record, the 6K is actually rated at 275PS (271bhp). It's the highest tuned OEM 4-plug 'phase-1' ECU (as fitted to STi V2 saloons).

Thanks for the info on that. So the 6k certainly has more power. All i really want to know is will it be a simple plug in gain and is it safe?

If you have a totally standard v2 sti saloon yea.

As your car has decat filter etc I would not just plug an ECU in. You will be having major issues with fuelling and boost etc.

As your in the channel islands closest place I know to you is in PLYMOUTH. To be honest I wouldn't even be running the decat now without a remap
