What oil

What is a decent gearbox oil and where do I buy ?

I get my car serviced at RCM. They recommend, supply and use Castrol Syntrax 75w-90 in customers' cars (unless otherwise told not to lol).

Think the front diffs/'box assembly takes 3.5L IIRC(?)

The rear VC takes 0.9L IIRC(?)

Opie sell plenty of 75W-90 synthetic gearbox oil options. They often run money-off promotions/voucher codes.

Opie also supplies Millers, I replaced all mine with Millers 75W-90, it runs at £16 per litre though...but as it only needs to be done once in 5 years I thought I might as well spend some cash. It made a difference to the cold gearchange , much less "notchy".

you can use the M3C code for 10%, or as mentioned, Opie always has 10% or 15% off deals on. Free postage over £40 I think .

Thanks for the recommendations.

You need a 75w-90 GL5 oil.

The Millers CRX NT, Motul Gear 300, Red Line 75w-90NS, Amsoil Severe Gear and Gulf Competition are ideal as top end options. The Millers TRX Synthetic/EE Nanodrive, Mobil SHC, Castrol Syntrax Universal Plus and Valvoline Synpower TDL are good, but a step down from the top oils. Fuchs Gear Syn, Motul Motylgear, Millers TRX Semi and Castrol Universal are good, cheaper options.

You can use the code SCOOBY for 10% off.

Cheers

I keep forgetting to use the code when ordering :brickwall

I’ve just stuck the syntrax oil in the track car, I think the rear diff might be 0.8l to fill, I previously thought it was 0.9l but mine started coming out at that point and after a quick look online some places state 0.8l

AS Performance 08 January 2018 09:14 AM

the rear diff simply has a level plug so you fill until it starts to com back out...........

R160 is approx 0.7ltr and R180 0.8ltr in general terms........

all decent quality options on the shelf at everyday day low deal pricing - no codes required :thumb:
