Blobeye impreza STI or Evo

Hi looking for some info,basically once I sell my current car I’m looking into getting a STI or a Evo

My budget will be around 10k so I’m going to be looking at either a Evo 7 gsr or RS2,Evo 8 gsr or blobeye impreza STI

In the past I’ve had a STI but I was 17 and sold it before I killed myself so I guess never really knew how good or bad it was and didn’t drive it enough,and 5/6 years ago I had a MR FQ320 in grey which had 400bhp (basically looked like a FQ400 and already modified before I bought it,which is probably best car I’ve ever had,and I’ve had a few included e46 m3s,escort cosworth,Focus RS etc,so my problem is at my budget I’m not going to be able to get a car as similar and as good as my previous Evo 8

And I’m going to want around 380-400bhp again this time,basically as a track car and weekend driving.

So my questions is,are the blobeye STI’s fairly reliable?
what are they like handling wise on track?
Are they easy to mod to 400bhp?
and are the DCCD models much better?

Any info is much appreciated

I've driven STIs and Evo VIIs, VIIIs and Evo Xs on track. Put the Evo X to one side, because it's so far removed from the raw attraction of the original Evos. The Evo VIII is a brilliant car, but choosing between an Evo and an STI, I've chosen an STI. Again.

The straight answer is the Scooby burble - the car seems to have more character. Yes, I get some people don't give a monkey's about it, but that's mine :)

Yes, as long as they're maintained properly - just don't get a later 2.5

A bit different to the Evo, because of the lack of Yaw control.

Yes - SC42 turbo, Front mount intercooler, 700cc+ injectors, a decent set of exhuast manifolds and up/downipes, 3" exhuast and a decent remap. You can throw more into the mix, but hopefully you get the idea.

A lot of this depends on your driving style and whether you feel you need to adjust the car's behaviour or your own driving style on track to suit a non-DCCD model. You can really change the behaviour on track with adjustable ARBs and adjustable coilovers to get the car to suit your own driving style, although it's not quite as quick and easy and adjusting the switch in the car ;)

also as I’ve been looking online I’m finding a JDM twin scroll models which apparently have stronger and engines and rarer,is this true?
and in there anything persific to look out for when buying,is the timing belt a common issue?

Yes, JDMs are known to have stronger bottom ends, but you'll be fine with a genuine UK STI to 400bhp (and more, depending on who you speak to). Timing belts are no more common an issue than on any other car, but get the tensioners done at the same time - Roger Clark Motorsport to a kit using genuine Subaru belts. Again, it's down to personal preference, but I would always choose genuine parts for cambelts. I had mine done within a week of buying mine - £340 all in. Probably over cautious, as they were changed 2 years before I bought the car and it had done very few miles, but I just feel happier knowing, that's all. Probably no different to me changing the engine and gearbox oil every 5k miles...

Tbh if you can find a JDM in your budget I'd go with that, it'll map almost as is to ish 360 with the standard turbo... add that to the instant pick up from the twin scroll and I doubt a 400bhp UK STI would be going anywhere... if anything it would most likely be behind you especially from a standing start... you'll also have instant pick up out of tight bends. ;)
