Type R is home now

Picked up my v3 type R yesterday afternoon and drove it the 130 miles home.

first things first, the 555 seats are alot more comfy than they look. I have a bad back and struggle to get comfy, but no issues there.

2nd thing. It sounds great. Full HKS exhaust on it... Bit loud but not terrible at cruising speed.

3rd I only used a 3rd of a tank of fuel.. Not bad for 130 miles. Used Optimax and Miller's octane booster and ran fine.

now... Issues

the clutch was slipping in 5th (I knew the clutch was weak so I had already got it booked into a local specialist next week, they are doing belt as well)

the right rear caliper is jammed on. Its like pulling a trailer, so going to strip the caliper today and hopefully it's just cause it has been sitting around for a while.

now the last one is it is only boosting to about. 75 bar of boost and it seems to hunt at idle by a few hundred rpm occasionally. My thought is boost leak somewhere?

any pics of common places to look?

it's nice to be back in Subaru ownership and I can't wait to put my old 555 plate back on it.

will post pics later today.

any help with the niggles would be appreciated...

happy Subaru day

Stock engine bar larger intercooler, has Sparco wheels, Tein Coilovers and an HKS exhaust

I do hate that there are 2 switches in the car that light up... and i have no idea what they do... think i will need to do some investigating.

Try the key in the passenger side door lock as that’s usually the master lock due to not being used as much.

130 miles on 1/3 of a tank with a dragging brake caliper? I'd be getting a map check on that.

yabbadoo4 21 December 2017 01:32 PM

the fact it has 2 switches suggest its been mapped? did the previous owner not give you any info regarding that?? it could be on a low boost setting, does flicking any of the switches make it boost higher? normally 2 switches would be high/low boost and maybe anti lag. could be a boost leak somewhere check all the vac pipes on inlet manifold also at turbo and boost solenoid. turbo inlet pipe is sometimes bad for it if its been off before they get a bit chewed up.

It will be map checked, but i was sitting at 50 MPH on the A1 pottering along which probably explains the reason for that

Caliper has now been freed off and is rolling fine.

Lock also fixed, was just a slight adjustment to one of the brackets behind the door card....

I do have yet another issue.... i had a clunk at the rear and it turns out it is movement in the rear differential. (prop shaft moves about a 1/4 turn)

Spoke to the garage and they are going to pick up the bill for it, anyone know where there is a good place to pick up a rear diff?

I am the first owner in the UK

Yeah will be looking for boost leak to see if i can locate it. No joy thus far

try matty@ mb developments. in the breakers section on here. did flicking any of the switches do anything btw?

Caribe 21 December 2017 02:58 PM

Thanks bud

Went out and drove it just now.... flicked the switches and it did nothing lol

Boosted the same, no anti lag etc. I think 1 of them is actually a fog light come to think of it.

What i can confirm is that my fuel guage is optimistic, so i think my fuel economy is actually as they are meant to be ..... rubbish lol

Just went and put Optimax and additive in it and it used alot more than a 3rd of a tank lol

Caribe 22 December 2017 08:49 AM

ONE OF THE SWITCHES IS THE FOG LIGHT LOL

Caribe 22 December 2017 08:50 AM

Still got a random switch, BUT i think it is something to do with the 90s spec Jap SATNAV that was in it..... i am going to replace the headunit on it so i will do some wire tracing and see what I can figure out.
