impreza number 3..........hawk sti
so im back in another impreza-couldnt keep away to be honest.
its a late 07 hawk sti engine forged 2.5 with a closed deck block built and mapped by scoobyclinic running 351bhp mahle pistons std rods with arp bolts new crank acl bearings cosworth gaskets heads fully rebuilt with upgraded valves/springs and retainers cr turbos rebuilt and fettled with vf43 turbo japspeed fmic scoobyclinic induction kit full set of silicone hoses extreme lightweight flywheel ap racing clutch forge dump valve denso 750cc injectors 3" de-cat downpipe afterburner vortex backbox hsd coilovers perrin wing stiffies defi gauges in dash pod xxr 527 in a custom gunmetal paint car has only covered 70k and is pretty much mint apart from a slight crease in the paint on rear bumber and a large stone chip on the front bumber. future plans- front and rear bumper respray along with spraying my fmic in silver set of big brakes or refurb the brembos and a set of godspeed 2 piece discs the hsd's are rusted solid so a set of bc's along with various bushes if needed and an anti-lift kit. tyres all past their best so will order a set of vredestein ultrac sessanta from camskill as they are only £75 each at the minute. would like a set of dtm mirrors but cant seem to find any would also like to push more power but as its on std rods i guess im limited somewhat even though it has a closed deck block, perhaps 400bhp is possible..........:wonder: https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...58be99a13f.jpg |
Nice car!
Sounds like it's be conservatively tuned from the spec. Having said that I've found that if I push too much boost at 3-3.5k rpm in 5th and 6th my hawk 2.5 shakes horrendously (torque groan) and the vf43 can easily spool that quick so if it's like mine it might be being held back on that account. Otherwise from what I've read the general consensus seems to be 390hp on the vf43 and I was advised stock rods are good for 420hp in a forged 2.5. |
Looks nice bud, glad to have you back in the saddle :thumb:
I would be checking the spec of that build though, I don’t think I’ve seen a closed deck conversion without uprated rods, not to mention paying for a new crank too :wonder: I seem to recall one engine builder on here saying a rebuilt semi closed deck 2.5 should not be pushed above 380 but I’m unsure of standard rod limits. Just to add, 350 bhp is a decent figure for a road car :thumb: Siv |

Spoke to kev at the clinic about The build and it is correct, the previous owner wasn't ever going to push to 400bhp so didn't want the expense of Uprated rods. Shame really but it is what it is
Maybe an sc38 turbo and map tweak closer to 400 is the way forward, would make great spool and torque, can’t go wrong :luvlove: Siv :thumb: |

Well I’ve never heard of a 2.5 let go because of a rod so I would 100 % trust the build and mapping.

Was thinking either that or an sc42
I’ve been there and hated my car with lag. On the other hand just leave it as it is, get it nice and warm and give it hell.... lol :lol1: Siv :thumb: |

I would be inclined to stay within the build envelope with the best spooling turbo, aiming for 390-395 with an sc38 will make for a better car than turning down the wick on a sc42, as marginal as It may be I personally wouldn’t introduce more lag needlessly.

Yeah true, will be the last thing I do anyway as wanna spend money on other stuff for it. The engine has done 8k and was built last August so at least I know it will be reliable......(hopefully lol)
Enjoy mate :thumb: Siv |

tyres arrived this morning.......0 messing around from camskill only ordered them 2 days ago. also spoke with simon @ chevron regarding my suspension and i think a visit is in order so he can see the car and talk through options.
:) |
small update.....
front and rear bumpers resprayed along with my fmic sprayed in silver. full set of godspeed g-hook discs along with new lines/fluid and performance friction pads all going to be fitted next week whilst the car is at chevron motorsport. simon is removing my old hsd coilovers and replacing with his custom damper/spring combo along with anything else that would benefit the car. also whilst its at chevron it will be having new tryes all round and a DAMD flat bottom steering wheel fitted............should be a totally different car when i get it back next on the list is either a oil catch can or an air/oil seperator. cheers |
All sounds great :thumb:
Anymore info on Si’s shock/spring combo ? Siv |
