vf22 with p25 housing
 

Hi there, wondering if its possible to have a vf22 turbo with p25 housing? is it required to have some modifications to fit the vf22 into the p25 housing? I currently have a vf37 turbo on my mazda mx5 running 14psi at 251whp. I want to get more out of this turbo but since my tuner says the vf37 is too small to go higher boost. so I want to keep my custom made manifold, downpipe the same and just get a bigger turbo without changing everything all over again. your advices please. Thanks in advance

vf37 is a twinscroll turbo and can run up to 1.5 bar comfortably. Problem is the displacement of the MX5 isnt ideal.

Most popular choice for an MX5 is a TD04-19T billet as its better suited.

In regards to your question, not sure, but throw enough money at something and it can be made to work. VF22 would be massively laggy on an MX5 so be warned.

There used to be a hybrid offering from Turbo Dynamics called the MD195S iirc. It was based on a VF36 and could run about 380-400 bhp on an Impreza. You could get in touch with them and ask them about it, not sure if it was bound only to the VF36 or whether they did the VF37 also.

RickyBobby - Thanks for the response. Have you ever come across an mx5 with a vf37 twinscroll? you will most probably be very surprised with how well the VF37 twinscroll works with the 1.8l engine. there was a compressor upgrade to get more air flow and was wondering that option - but to have it done and rebuilt will cost just a shy $1000 nzd so thought i'd rather go for a new turbo as a whole for a little extra such as garret gt2861r. a friend of mine has a GT2876r turbo on his forged motor and does 280whp and I must say that the spool up is not as close as my one - my turbo spools up way quicker and pulls your back harder than the gt28 but the top end of the gt28 is pretty cool. Perhaps I should rebuilt my motor with forged and have it retuned to 21psi with the vf37. could bring me close to 300whp as I was told - but is it true?

Yeah I'd go with the forged option and wind the boost up mate, 1.6 bar seems to be a comfortable range for a 37.
