OEM 6 spd STI gear knob fitment
Do all 6 speed STI gear knobs have the same thread pattern so that they are directly interchangeable?
I have the full black gear knob from the early models: https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...0b2e000669.jpg Would like to change it to the 2005 one: https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...ea15a62a65.jpg or perhaps even the MY16 one: https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...b3ffc21012.jpg Thanks |
Im pretty sure they are all the same
I know for a fact you can go from black topped to silver with red stitch for sure as i did it myself. Id imagine the red topped on is the same as seen sold online together usually :) |
All the same.......... just ask Zany ;)

8 knobs too many I think don last time I had a feel ... :lol1: :thumb:
yes all same :hjtwofing |
If your paying full whack you might aswell gimme your money
I have a brand new one in the 2nd pic from the top available for sale as I have a spare :thumb: |
The red top one is sh!t compared to the one above it for feel and looks I've had few of them aswell..
|
Red stitched with Silver in both my cars

I have the early, plain black one and I hate its feel. The leather top or whatever it is, is so slippy, it doesn't grip really well in the palm. And the overall diameter/width of the knob is a bit small for my liking. On a side note: Is it normal that the lift thingy for reverse has a tiny little bit of play on the shaft? It has on mine and its kinda annoying when shifting quickly as it makes a clicking sound due to it being a little loose. This is my first 6 speed (only had gc8's before) so I'm wondering whether thats a common thing or not. |

I see. Is there any difference in diameter / width between all the different 6 spd knobs?

Got a little bit of play in the hawk and the Foz. never caused me any concern.
|
08 onwards knobs are "weighted" also. i reverted to an 05-07 item in my hatch

Not the best photo but I went for the Duracon 6 speed and it feels so much nicer when changing gear and is easy to clean :)<br/> |

Thanks for the detailed insight in all the available options.
That STI titanium knob is sick  didnt even know about that one. I ended up getting a 2011 gear knob from the GR model. It's the one that looks like the Hawkeye 2005-2007 gear knob but is weighed as people have pointed out. I have to say I am very pleased with the choice. I prefer heavier gear knobs so this is perfect. The overall feel is also so much better compared to the early black 6mt knob. Very happy :thumb: |
If anyone has a 6 speed like zany's last pic, i'd like to buy it
Might even swap my rcm gear knob for one |
Here's one for Zany.................

I think I will buy a S206 gear knob, the nicest one IMO. I don't know if they can be found cheaper than what Japanparts.com sell them for?
