ah the most poluting car on the market. Gotta love there marketing it as a zero emission when it takes so much to build lol

Engineering at its finest.....but........let's be honest it's boring as ****.
No drama whatsoever, no excitement, no thrill, none of the stuff you get with hearing engine noise, when you downshift before a corner and you get the crackles, pops and bangs from the exhaust. The noise when the tyres lose traction an the revs rise......all gone. Unbelievably awesome performance stats though, but I'd rather have a slower car with more personality, and for that cost the list is pretty huge for what you could get. |
Like many perceived performance cars - form over function.

Withthat said you can't help but be impressed with Tesla's efforts to date :) maybe they could give us a choice of soundtrack from the stereo system? V8 today, ferrari at the weekend, whatever you want ;) |
As a technical exercise its impressive, but as a product it does nothing for me, you might as well be in front of your playstation playing GT as it is more engaging.
The new Tesla lorries however could really be a game changer if the technology is used correctly, BUT battery technology must pick up the pace as current batteries are not good enough and create a massive ecological issue. |
I wish all the R&D budgets dedicated to self driving car tech was redirected to fuel cell research whether it be batteries, hydrogen or whatever else is on the drawing board. I would imagine the oil companies are stifling research :(

Can't see battery cars taking over just yet. And by the time they do i will be too old to care lol

Everyone I know that’s been in one says the acceleration is anything but un-dramatic, you won’t find much else on the road that’ll launch you off the line that hard. |

I’d suggest you actually try one before jumping to that conclusion (especially given most cars don’t pop/crackle/bang on downshifts lol).

Its very impressive, the crazy thing is the governments are pushing electric cars, but what about electric busses and Lorry's the big polluters around. Until they make a battery car that will charge fast and do a large amount of miles they won'y won't take off.

No reason that set up can’t be adapted into a bus shell either. Just initial cost of buying the new trucks will be the stumbling block I suspect until costs come down. |
About 3 years ago I had a test drive of one of Tesla's new salons. They compared it to a fast 5 series and I tend to agree. Whilst there is no engine noise there is wind and tyre noise so at low speed it's a little strange, but as the speed goes up it's like a big executive barge. A barge that is very quick with constant torque motors pushing you back in the seat. I was very impressed with the acceleration- especially as this was the cheap(!) low powered version. If I had a chance to drive their new sports car I'd jump at the chance.
The only other electric car I've driven was a G-wiz and that was worse than an electric milk float from 30 years ago. |
Well in that case still feel should of made that the main goal. Either way it won't workout cheaper in the long run.
Once government loose all that tax off fuel, they will add it straight onto electric cars. With them being more to buy in the first place aswell. Does sound an amazing idea for lorrys and buses. But as you said the cost would be so high. Although it will knock down there shipping costs massively. So might be worth investment.

Mans destroyed the planet already, swapping to electric now is too late. Damage is done. But even swapping to electric won't solve anything.
Where do you think electric comes from? Power stations. And they are just as bad. Then all the oil used dig up metals to make batteries. Then all the oil burning ships used to transport the parts to build them. Then the power used to recycle all the old batteries. As you can see, pointless. As long as mans in charge this planet is done for.

ItÂ’s all part and parcel, the more Tesla sells and the more markets they can get into the cheaper it will become, eventually. Your always paying for the dev costs early in a companyÂ’s life like this, especially with such new technology.
