Electrical Charging
 

I have a small engine in garage which needs the batteries charging for 12 hours every 2 weeks.


So what can I get to plug into the wall power socket that will turn the charger on and off as required.


Please help as I haven't a clue :wonder:

couldnt you fit a cheap battery conditioner, so it keep s the batteries in their best condition rather than forcing a charge into it for 12 hours when they may not need it, also the conditioner stops sulfacation within the cells, so extending the life of the batteries.

That's what I would do too.

Batteries are in an electrically driven moblity scooter and recommendation is that batteries are charged overnight every 2 weeks. Batteries are quite different from car batteries. Trickle charging is not the answer.

Having a lead acid battery above 13.2V keeps it in top condition, prevents sulpha build up. Ctek are probably the best known battery maintenance out there. They do no harm to batteries left on for months even years. I know I have several, some attached to motorcycles which are hardly ridden these days

They come with a quick connector which is left connected to the battery. Then you just plug the charger in to it, plug into the wall and away it goes.
I have one on my Scoob.

The point is that car/bike batteries are quite different from some boat and mobility scooter batteries. A car battery is designed to take a big hit when the engine is started but a mobility scooter needs steady power over a longer period of time. This means that charger type is quite different. Also on the machine I have gaining direct access to the batteries is not easy.

Don't have an engine . It just runs LED lighting and nav electronics plus autohelm

It's just iv done too many car batteries before now when iv let them get too low

I only plug ctek end of voyage , when there's not enough time for solar to replenish , ie return trip

I have no shore power usually.

If had diesel inboard engine be getting 2nd dedicated cranking battery, which would get charged off alternator.

No. Can't get on with a keyboard the size of a postage stamp and refuse to be conned into paying £800 to make a phone call when I can get a £10 flip phone that I can drop without it breaking. I prefer to use Skype for texts as I can use a full keyboard with spell check etc.
