V3 sti Improvements

Hi folks,

I have a standard v3 sti. I am looking to understand what improvements I can make to it without moving far away from standard. So looking for mods which are hard to recognise but will improve the car.
What is the standard sti version 3 lacking??

Simple remap will transform the car without any further mods,ESL would be my choice.
Maybe a new fuel pump if you're still on the original one.

Also better brakes are a must imo

Thank you - I will look into esl and a remap. Is esl one if the most cost effective means of remapping? Obviously I want it done correctly.
Also I have noticed the car is a little rough on idle particular when cold. A tad shaky but revs remain constant. Is this normal or should I clean maf? There are no error codes and car runs well.

I would say ESL is the most cost effective and is very capable, there are other options like alcateck.
Rough idle could be a number of things,I would clean throttle body,ICV is something else you can clean but if you remove it then make sure you have a new gasket.
Could also be failing O2 sensor.
If idle is bellow 800rpm then might be just a simple cable adjustment?
Just to add: it would be worth checking all the pipework, the original rubber ones can perish and crack.

will check all that out thanks! Is yours fairly smooth on cold idle?

Yes idles nice,I'm still working on the closed loop part of the fuel map and cruise needs a tweak as it could be smoother,my wideband sensor is dead so need to sort that 1st.

ESL daughter board is around £250 new, plus mapping costs £3-350 I'd imagine on top.

Considering having the side skirts and rear bumper spats colour coded. Do you think this will enhance thencar or really not do it any favours? Sti 97 version 3. Thanks
