Oil leak

Just noticed that the car has started to drip oil.

Had a little look and can't see exactly where it's coming front. General area is behind the secondary air pump and filler neck area.

Car is a 2010 Impreza sti.

Any ideas what could be leaking around that area?

cheers

Luke

Rocker cover gasket? When it's cool, get you hand in between the chassis rail and the rocker cover....usually on the bottom edge.

Most likely candidate in that general area would be the rocker cover.

Cheers both...it looks like its coming from the top of the engine so I'll have a good look tomorrow

a spillage of oil from a top up , catch can leaking , dip stick leaking

I did wonder if it was coming from the oil filler neck

Took but not great with poor lighting.

I'll take it off tomorrow and have a look.

the first picture looks like a breather for the pcv system, which can be a bit grubby , is there a pipe that has come off photo number 3 that’s the way it looks

Vxr2010 16 October 2017 09:51 PM

sorry looks like a bolt rather than a pipe missing

Vxr2010 16 October 2017 10:42 PM

power steering fluid ?

MOTORS S GT 17 October 2017 06:52 AM

Is the rubber washer under the oil filler cap missing.

TECHNOPUG 17 October 2017 11:06 AM

Cam Cover gaskets. The oil gets everywhere so it appears as if there could be multiple leaking culprits. But almost certainly gaskets. You can change the oil filler O ring at the same time. How does the other side look?

luke.m10 17 October 2017 01:24 PM

Wash is there on the oik filler neck but didn't look great so I'll replace that. The clips around breather pipes next to it weren't great and weren't actually applying any pressure so replaced those with new ones.

I'll see if it stops if not I'll move on to rocker covers then and o rings....I'll keep you updated.

Other side is bone dry.

Vxr2010 17 October 2017 03:55 PM

once you replace the clips etc you said then give it a good clean and wipe it the best you can at least that way it will tell you if you have solved it , my last oil leak was a catch can base had come loose , so i’m thinking or shall i say hoping it’s just your breather clips that are the problem , the catch can i had was not really needed but as soon as the breathers vent to air then it’s surprising the amount of oil that gets out

Been out for a 30 blast and not oil drops on the floor after being parked so hopefully it's sorted.

Good thinking. Thinking of getting some degreaser to spray on there....any suggestions?

Hawkeye D 17 October 2017 06:03 PM

GUNK do a good foam, spray on (slightly warm / cool engine) and work with a brush. Even an old toothbrush to agitate, and gently rinse off - maybe with a water spray bottle.
Maybe ductape on some plastic sheeting to keep the water away from the coil packs / spark plugs.

Make sure the new breather clips are fitted properly, and the filler neck O ring before introducing rinse water....just in case.

Will be easier once clean to monitor, even if you just wipe off a degreaser with a cloth it will at least help monitoring the situation.
