New to the forum and some knowledge needed please,I am waiting for my forester sti to land from Japan and have been told that the milltek exhaust is no longer available can anyone confirm this and if so any other recommendations for a system including a sports cat.

They no longer make the miltek for the forester sti, Hayward and Scott make a system

if you are after pub figure then do the decat , the car runs better as in smoother on the standard cat , this is based on back to back driving i have one with a sports cat and one without , yes it could be the map but they are tuned the same , plus there is nothing speed wise between them , the hks are very good but expensive , hayward and scott are good , look for a second hand system if you are not too bothered , the doom and gloom bit now , check your rear window on the drivers side at the bottom if you have paint imperfections this is normal but the problem is you get rust on the rear same side jacking point which appears linked , lots of under body sealing worth doing , get a mid section delete the sound is much better , a remap makes a lot lot of difference , in 8 years of having fsti the only minor thing that i can think of that went wrong was the drivers door electric window motor which was solved with a 5£ bit of weld , i may have been unlucky and i know others have not had a problem , one hg went at around 90k miles the other at around 87k miles , always do a full rebuild if a hg goes including arp bolts as i have found out to my cost , but one of the best cars i had , suspension depending on how you want it to ride coilovers make a big difference plus i lowered about an inch , boost wise you will get around 1.3 bar max as it’s only a small turbo , but small in this case is good , you will have very little lag mine are on boost around 2000 rpm so off the line they are very quick as my friend found out in a tuned spec d when he could not keep up , any more questions just shout , good luck with it , it is a good choice and i’ve owned many subaru’s but still prefer the fsti not that i don’t like my wagon too lol , forgot to mention it when they remap it get them to lean it off a bit when it’s on light throttle you will be looking at around 35 mpg

forgot to ask newer or older shape , plus the dvla can be funny tax is based on year of registration not on when bought into the uk , you are probably looking at about 300£ or so a year if it’s registered pre the 2006 change so email dvla if it is more

Imports are all based on the old road tax rules and approx £245/year

I had a battle with the dvla over this , they went on the emissions due to the information on the build report , they started at around 500£ and went down to 300 , but they would not go lower , if you are saying 245 £ or so how did you manage that and is it some thing i can still do , i was happy at least they reduced it 200£ or so

Car is 2004 with genuine 58,000kms in grey just got the long wait to land in this country.

Grey a good colour , it will be rust free and mileage is good , how long is the wait , on the car tax thing i think my issues are both fsti have a co2 figure shown which is why dvla are the way they are , i have contacted them back so i await a reply

My SG FSTI never suffered any rust issues, was £245 Tax and last I heard had clocked over 150k miles with a full LPG system running the Litchfield 330/330 Performance upgrades.

Hi the trooper , do you happen to know if the co2 was shown for yours , i think that is where things are different , i’m currently on 155 k miles plus , and she is still pretty rust free apart from the sill repair job which is now rust free

Not sure mate. My car was a Litchfield Import and as you would expect was pretty much spot on paperwork and V5 wise. I bought it from him but it was a part-ex he had taken in, me being the second owner.

I would suggest stating to the DVLA that all other versions of the same car are at £245 and you are being disadvantaged.

Worth a try.

It had a full Milltek, some tastey Red STi shocks and springs, Whiteline goodies and a Zero Sport CAIK. Went like stink to be fair with the EJ255 lump and even performed well fuel wise, much to my surprise. If my current WR Ltd Leggy went a FSTi would be back on the drive in a heartbeat.

dvla got back , due to co2 being shown plus the age of the car then 305£ is the correct tax , if no co2 shown then it would be 245£ , this was confirmed by an importer of cars too

VXR, I understand the tyre's are 225/45/18 any recommendations if I decide to change.

Hi , i went with 225/40/18 on one car and 225/45/18 on the other , the 40 are a bit cheaper speedo is slightly off but not much by about 2mph , tyres are a very personal choice , the nuts are michelin pilot super sports , i have kuhmo ku39 next lot will be goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric

Welcome to the FSTI club! I went from a 2006 Impreza to a 2004 FSTI like yours and love it! I'm paying £245 p/y tax.


I now run 18x8.75" wheels with 225/40/18 tyres.

As for the tax. I've just registered a 2006 legacy (2.0 twinscroll) and I'm on £245 pa tax.
Having been reading BPR's thread I think a FSTI will be on the shortlist when my leggy gets replaced!

At some point, for the right deal I could be persuaded out of my FSTI. But not found anything yet that beats it to be honest and still loving it every day I drive it! Such great cars, especially when mildly tuned.

About to order a cat back exhaust and have been told it is the same length as the newage Impreza can anyone confirm this is right.

from my knowledge , the hangers on the back box are different but can probably be bent to fit , the centre pipe delete i would measure it as there are two sizes just so you know which one you need , for the delete i would go with hayward and scott mines been on it for ages they are well made and they fit , i bought a cheaper one and regretted it did not fit not well made

They are different. If you're using your Forester downpipe then the centre section will be 4" too short and the tailpipe will be 2" too short too.

Even if you use your longer Forester centre pipe to mount the rear box, as above the rear box hanger will be close. You can use the 2 rear hangers for the box if you fit longer hanger rubbers but the rear box front mount will be in the wrong place and not fit. If you decide to do this then the tailpipe will still be 2" too short and the system will not exit from the bumper, exhaust gases will get caught under the car which can be dangerous.

If you want to fit the system then you'll need an Impreza downpipe with the longer 2nd decat section.

I have an Impreza exhaust fitted to my 2004 foz sti now. I had to lengthen the centre pipe by 4", fit different rear hanger rubbers, make a bespoke new rear front hanger, cut the tailpipe off and weld one on that was 4" longer. A lot of work to be honest. I can fabricate and stainless weld so I did it as a challenge. Lol.
