Characteristic of 1s ecu on sti v3

Hi all

my 1997 sti v3 is running a 1s ecu. Can somebody please help me understand the characteristics of the 1s map - i.e. Aggressive at top end? Typical bhp for 1s map?
Also what differences is there with an sti of same age running a 6s map? Advantages and dsadvantages?

I am sefo running a vf23 turbo as expected as wanted to double check after seeing the 1s ecu- lol

Thanks in advance

The MY97 WRX ran the 1s. The Sti ran the 6s
I have both oem maps on my laptop, from memory there is more aggressive timing and a little leaner fuel map, pretty sure the boost 1.1bar was the same.
The WRX has the VF22(Bigger blower with more puff top end)
The Sti a VF23 a quicker spooling turbo.
If you have ESL then it's a custom map so doesn't matter which of the ECUs' you have.

Thanks for all the info. Any idea how to tell if esl is activated? Boost controller shows 1.15 bar peak I think.
I guess I am struggling to understand why a 1s ecu is on this car running a vf23 turbo. Could someone have swapped a Jdm wrx lump?

Does it look like there may be an esl board hidden somewhere going by the additional wires which looked spliced in to ecu?

ESL has nothing to do with spliced wires, you need to open the ECU and have a look.

The screenshot you have taken from the ESL site is an article on how the ESL is not a piggyback, the picture shows a piggyback and the full text says:

A piggyback ECU is so called as it is spiced into the loom between the sensors and OEM ECU and modifies signals to trick the ECU into behaving differently.

Easy enough to open the ECU and check,or if someone close by has a lead to plug in.
