AP brakes and Standard STI Wheels

Guys looking for some advice. I currently have Prodrive GT1 18" alloys on my hawkeye running some AP callipers on the front. I measured the clearance between the inner face of the wheel and the outer edge of the calliper at 11mm. I wanted to purchase some standard 17" wheels from a 2005 STI that were mint but from my simple mathematics this would only give 1mm to 2mm clearance which I feel is to close. Has anyone managed this? Any info much appreciated before these go!! Thanks again....

I have APs behind WRX wheels albeit with 3mm spacers and there is barely 1mm clearance. Never had a problem with them in 50k miles. Not sure how hot you would have to get the calipers for them to expand!

Stock STI wheels should clear as brembos are more bulky than APs (which ap do you have?)

Hi no spacers fitted, just dug out the old invoice, they were fitted by godspeed, 355_ grooved AP 6 pot. Hope this helps.

If its 2 to 3mm surely this is way to close?

Thanks

Hi
Our 355mm kit is too big to fit under 17" wheels , you would need 330mm discs
Cheers Ian

Why? Unless you have bent and deformed wheels between the centre mount and the outer rim, there will always be 2 to 3mm clearance. So the wheels will never come into contact with the calipers.

But ifs Ian says you need 18" anyway, I guess your numbers are wrong in the first instance.

Thanks Ian, appreciate the feedback, 18 inch wheels for me.

Mine have been like this for 50k without issue (and with 2 different sets of WRX wheels)

Attachment 73526

That's with 315mm discs. Pretty sure I could run 330mm without problems.

I'd never noticed the caliper clearance until i put mine back on at the weekend.
Must be 1mm or less like you guys have said. It's pretty insane ha

(mine are 17" bk racing over classic 4 pot subaru STI calipers)
