electric window problem

Put a brand new window motor mech in my blob drivers door as it did not work when I got the car (bench tested motor and did not work) been playing up randomly not working then would work with out opening door or driving the car so don't think its a loose connection. so was thinking switch but it totally stoped half way down today to went to power motor up just shut the window and nothing new motor is dead. Just bad luck or is there a fault somewhere causing the motor to burn out?

time to get a multi-meter out and start having a dig, see what power is coming in, then follow it all the way to the motor.

Sounds like the switch in this case.

would that burn out a motor?

alcazar 18 September 2017 03:57 PM

Might do. If it's been feeding the motor current when it can't turn, that's what does for most motors.

would that not just blow the fuse?

alcazar 19 September 2017 10:22 AM

Depends on the fuse.
Fuses are mainly to protect against short circuits. if a motor can't turn it doesn't draw any more current than it's stall current, which the fuse is designed to cope with.
