Zinc plating
 

Not sure if this is the correct section to post about this in but either way.

does any one who's done an underside restore or refresh know of a company that will zinc plate the old rusted nuts and bolts?

Ive got a new rear subframe, lateral links, arms etc and going to replace the lot. I've emailed a few places but apparently they don't do it ... I got new nuts and bolts for the struts alone and it was £80 so I'm sure plating will be cheaper.

Iv never tried but I know you can get home plating kits, or make one quite cheap/easily I keep thinking about giving it a go.

Will have a look at that, be handy to just send the spares off and swap them out as I go.

Hopefully someone else will chime in, there's deffinetly people on here who have done it.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to get a few cans of ACF-50 and spray over all the nuts and bolts when you fit them? Damn good stuff.

I’m not sure Markey, the nuts are already 15yo and rusted so was looking to get them fully stripped and plated. Regardless of cost. I’ll look into and appreciate your idea though. Thanks.

It might be worth giving J & P Metal Technologies in Carnoustie a shout. TBH I've no idea if they do zinc plating but when I was paying for some wheel refurbs I asked them what else they did and their reply was "Pretty much anything and everything that involves metal". Their website isn't the best though...

If they're original nuts and bolts, I'd replace with new. No question. I didn't realise you were re-using the old ones. I'n sure the nuts are meant to be replaced in the service manual anyway.

I'm ACF-50 coating all the NEW bolts I'm fitting. Expensive, but should do the trick. Even the strut bolts come to nearly £90 from Ebay let alone the £120 Subaru want. £5.69 +vat for a nut? They are having a proper laugh....

Good shout, think I’ll just replace the lot. I just thought re-use as the main parts were still shiny just heads n nuts that are corroded. But in for a penny in for a pound .... stick it on the bill! That’s a job for next year now anyway ! Cheers guys.
