Best breakdown cover, RAC, AA, Green Flag or another one ?
 

My car insurance is up for renewal, they offered me the RAC full UK cover for around £105 a year.

I was just wondering what are the best options these days for breakdown cover, i've not had it for a while, i just thought i'd get some this time round, prices and what cover you get etc.

Funny just did this myself this week.

Went with autoaid in the end via groupon.

£39 for two people covered, looks like a full service (home start, relay etc)

as of a couple of years ago, you no longer have to pay for the services upfront - the garages claim directly from autoaid.

The price compared to the likes of the RAC and AA just seems too good to be true at £43.31 per year for what you seem to get, the equivalent RAC or AA one is in the region of £120 upwards.

Lots of users seen to like them, Auto Express also rated them

I used ADAC, the German AA. £120 for 2 people, any car, Europe wide. AA comes out for ADAC in Uk

I have first-hand experience of AutoAid - been (and am still) with them for about 5 years now. They cover myself and my wife and the policy applies to us, not the cars we own, so we are covered in any car we are driving. Excellent value for money!!! We had our Forester recovered when the bottom end died last January and I was also able to claim back the transportation fee of getting the wrx wagon to the Subaru dealers after the wishbones failed a few years ago. No hassle whatsoever. Definitely recommend them.

My experience suggests to me that it's more a case of the RAC and AA ripping off members as I get the same level of service from AutoAid as I have with the RAC in the past. I guess you could compare it to budget airlines vs premium airlines - at the end of the day both do the same job but one comes with extra frills at an expense.

It was a no brainer, i've just joined AutoAid for £43.31 especially after the positive feedback that people have been giving on them.

Mines due as well, I'll look into AutoAid, although it's personal cover rather than car is there any limitations on the age of the car they'll recover, the Scoob is 18 years old now so the likes of Green Flag won't cover it?

Mines with green flag and thats a 1995. Only reason I changed from RAC was when I stupidly put diesel in it RAC wanted 200 quid up front ...
Wont happen again, got a new filler neck.

I'm with GEM they do personal cover, so im covered if im on the bike, van, old car basically most any vehicle you are driving, you can yet the claim back style or full cover, with home start, recovery, onward travel ect.
Gets cheaper if you cover multiple people in the same house.

Website says they won't cover cars over 16 years old, maybe it's changed recently.

I've been with Autoaid for a few years & had to use them twice. First time, a few years ago, we did have to pay for recovery and reclaim - which was quick & easy. Second time was about 18 months ago and they said there system had changed so there was no pay & claim-back any more.

Under either system I'd recommend them.

May be worth checking as some people are not aware but certain Barclays Bank accounts actually gave you full AA (if I remember correctly) breakdown cover! I've not used it in about 2 years hence I can't remember exactly. I rang Barclays last time I broke down and they gave me the details. Anyone with a Barclays account may want to check if they have this or not. The cover I have is for Europe as well, covers hotel fees if needed and covers any vehicle I am in! Not bad really. Thought I'd put it out there.
