Lets talk floor mats......

The none OEM floor mats in my 2004 Wagon are pretty shocking, the drivers side doesn't even fit properly and is a massive PITA when driving - new mats are needed.

Trying to get a price out of my local dealer is like trying to heard cats as they never phone back so i've taken to eBay, however the question is do i stick with genuine mats or aftermarket if the latter is there a preferred supplier?

ossett2k2 26 August 2017 11:13 AM

I also have the same problem due to cheap poor quality copies the last owner bought, proper pita they are!
I've been looking at these but can't comment on quality:

ive heard the scoobyworld mats are good. they have proper sti logos which are tufted into the mat not a stitched on bit of material with the logo on which is always stitched on squint and looks naff on the cheaper ebay tat. heel plates help with wear and they have the corner eyelet which hooks onto the mat as well which most others dont. i might have a set of them myself soon.

Had a look at Scoobyworld and they seem expensive. Need to keep looking :)

Expensive! Lol 70 isn't a lot,buy 30 ones and they end up being crap

TECHNOPUG 26 August 2017 02:40 PM

I got my mats here: https://simplycarmats.co.uk/

I went for the 5mm Super Rubber. Perfect fit and hard wearing.

jaygsi 26 August 2017 06:35 PM

Seen OEM mats for 50, not for newage models.

Is that for new ones jay?
You got a link?

jaygsi 27 August 2017 05:01 PM

Yeah new mats, not sure if there's many left, just searched Subaru OEM matts.

nortonscooby 30 August 2017 10:19 PM

Keep an eye on breakers section. Matt @ m.b developments has a set of decent ones from time to time

StrangelyBrown 30 August 2017 10:27 PM

Have been quoted 69 for a full set from my local dealership, conveniently they have some in stock as well :)

TECHNOPUG 30 August 2017 10:32 PM

Trust me, these will be a lot better quality https://simplycarmats.co.uk/smart_product.asp?id=10953

I'd love to be able to drop on a set of new STi Type UK mats. Apparently they are not available any more. Currently running cheap 12 mats to keep the carpet clean.

Was just about to order the same,I think 12 delivery is a bit steep so might rethink.
Maybe a car mats group buy might be in order? :wonder:

Yeah, I was a little shocked by the P&P, as it only showed up after you went through the shopping cart process. But sack it, what the hell...

Quality is excellent. The 'nap' fibres are about 10mm tall! With the logo machine-embroidered into, effectively, the base of the ensemble (if you zoom into the logo, you'll see how the fibres stand higher than the logo).

ossett2k2 13 September 2017 07:33 PM

How come there's no hole for the mat holder? It's there in your 1st pic joz,do the later classic not have a holder?

joz8968 13 September 2017 08:43 PM

Yeah, the MY99/00 cars do come with that carpets mats metal retainer thing (mine's missing though).

The carpets comes with some kind of modular plastic clip arrangement... I've yet to open the packet and read the instructions.

I expect you need to create the hole yourself using a bradawl or something? Which, if true, is a bit crap TBH! :wonder:

Thanks for reminding me, though... I'll post again after I suss it.

joz8968 13 September 2017 08:50 PM

The carpets have a really grippy backing to them... Plus they can't really move forward in the footwell anyway.

So I doubt it'll be an issue not having them held down.

ossett2k2 13 September 2017 09:20 PM

They do look proper smart,it's on my xmas list :)

joz8968 13 September 2017 09:53 PM

I was right... They come with a 'universal fixing system'.

It's basically a pair of two modular, black plastic pieces - one set for each rear corner of the mat (the seat end).

You DO have to create two holes, about 5mm dia.

You then pass the female parts of the assembly through each hole from the underside, so that it pokes through to the topside.

You then simply screw in the other male piece from the topside - a circular retainer about 15mm diameter.

Then you position the mat and push it forward so that a metal pin and two moulded spikes on the underside of the bottom pieces bite into the car's carpet, thus holding the mat in place i.e. so that it cannot slide (forwards).

Not sure I fancy butchering the mat, TBH... Think I'll see how it fares without them first.

I'll let you know I get on.

joz8968 13 September 2017 09:59 PM

I reckon the ideal tool, to create a clean hole, would be one of those leather/belt-hole puncher things...!

Assa1974 29 September 2017 12:36 PM

I bought WRX branded mats from Scoobyworld and they're very good quality. Mine came with the eyelet in the driver's side mat so no butchering required. I wonder if this is a legal requirement for the mats to come with secure fixings if the car does not have a mat hook on the drivers side? I'm pretty sure there are regulation in the US following accidents caused by mats interfering with the pedals.

MajorTomUK 29 September 2017 02:09 PM

Has anyone bought from here before? Thinking of ordering these WRX mats for my blobeye wagon, but thinking those scoobyworld ones might be better quality with the heelpad: http://subaru-impreza.sgpetch.co.uk/...X+Logo/id=3642
