Presumably, you'll need to fit substantial spacers and beefed up (Gp.N?) wheel bearings?

if i got 5 in the next couple of days I'll fit them on the 4 door and see
Cool, that'd be handily illustrative.

Godspeed Brakes 10 September 2017 07:32 PM

Not sure on spacer size , would have thought somewhere between 30mm to 50mm , I'll make hubcentric spacers , i can make them exactly the size i need , i would imagine wheel bearings would not last as long as they would without spacers , but it wouldn't get driven like a rally car as its going to be a road car .
There aren't any uprated bearings as far as i know , when i ran a Gp N car , we just fitted standard bearing.
The Hatch wrx has a better front bearing so i could use hubs from them on the front , or even fit widetrack hubs as the bearings on those are even better , i could make spacers to suit either hub .
It's going to be a bit of trial and error , but others have done WRC kits before and I've not heard of anyone having bearing issues.

joz8968 10 September 2017 10:34 PM

What with your engineering skills/resources, you have every option covered, whatever. :thumb:

I'm the first UK owner of my MY99 STi, and have had her for over 7yrs now.... No sign of any rumbling bearings as of yet.

Shane 11 September 2017 09:38 AM

Loving those wheels in 18", very similar to the Speedline ST2 that I have in 17", you can see the difference in offset with the flush centre on the 18" version

Ordered the Carbon Fibre WRC body kit for the type R a week or so ago so no turning back now ! Should be ready to ship to me in a couple of weeks time , so can book it into the body shop to start ripping my car apart , seems such a shame to have to cut off perfectly good rear quarter panels , but looking at the bigger picture it will be well worth it once it's finished.
Most kits available are a wide arch panel that is bonded onto the standard rear quarter panel , and you cut it away so you cannot see it under the arch , the kit I have bought totally replaces the full quarter panel , and is bonded on where the standard panel is spot welded on.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psvbmhktu5.jpg

The sills are bonded on , and are a perfect fit into the perfectly fitted wings

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psbvcxv2rm.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psz0aw9q7a.jpg

The wings are the best fitting ones I've seen , and after bashing my old WRC about on rallies , i've tried a few different makes and nothing seemed to fit

Bumper were also an issue , or at least finding good copies , but these are very good also

This kit is by far the best quality I have seen advertised , and costing nearly as much as the base car , it should be !

The interior is staying standard , there is no roll cage going in , I'm only modifying the outside , along with the Speedline wheels already fitted , will be fitting coilovers to get the ride height right for the arches , obviously big brakes front and rear , will be looking at doing something different , so perhaps fitting RAR front and rear brakes , we'll see on that.

Was going to stay white for colour , but the more I look at photo's of wide arch cars , the WRC blue still gets me , so that's 99% chosen.

I'll be adding to this thread and including pics along the way.

Cheers Ian

Awesome project Ian looking forward to seeing the end results.

That's an awesome looking carbon kit you've got there. Who made these if you don't mind me asking?

Cheers

Had delivery of the kit from Ireland today , look very good quality in the flesh !

Jamie over in Ireland , who's done these , sent photo's of his own car with these panels fitted in place straight off the press , no fettling has been done , just clamped in place , and the fit is amazing , much better than anything I ever bought for my old WRC car , pity these weren't about when I needed them.

Looking forward to making a start now , going to get the car stripped down , going to remove the interior , glass , and all bolted on panels myself , and then it's off to the body shop to have the rear quarters removed , fit the kit and get it painted WRC blue.

I'll get it back to my workshop and refit the interior and glass , and crack on with the other stuff , suspension , brakes , and getting the wheels filling the arches nicely.

Made a start on stripping the Type R down yesterday , it's looking a bit sorry for itself now , looks like it's been stolen recovered !

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...pswusqn2f7.jpg

Bumper bar was well rusty , so ordered new front and rear ones yesterday from ICP , so should have those Tuesday , can start fitting the wings and front bumper , they all need drilling to bolt them on.

Got an auto glazier coming Wednesday to remove all the glass , then it's off to the body shop end of the week to have the rear quarter panels removed , and they can fit the full carbon kit on properly , they are also fabricating the rear inner arch tubs , and extension plates to allow for the extra width .

So all moving in the right direction.

I didn't want the car going to the bodyshop with my new wheels on , so swapped them with the RA's wheels , the RA looks very nice with the WRC rep's on

Ordinarily i'm not a fan of white classics, but these look class. This is some great progress coming along here! That body kit will be epic! :thumb:

joz8968 21 October 2017 10:18 PM

How very dare you! (I have a white STi 5). :D

- Actually, once the body is all sorted, Ian's going to be having it painted in the correct Works cars' genuine shade of WR Blue.

So it's all good.

Godspeed Brakes 21 October 2017 10:43 PM

Managed to get a wing on this afternoon , none of the holes are drilled in the wing , spent a bit of time marking it all , check , measure , check measure !
The panels are to nice ( and expensive ) to bugger up.
They fit very nice straight out the box , it's a shame to paint over the carbon fibre.

Wow! That looks stunning:cool::cool: nice pair off scoobys you have, I had a mint classic 6 years ago...ended up on its roof:( I'm still gutted! Searched for about a year for another but couldn't find anything decent, ended up getting a hawkeye, love it but I'd still prefer a classic:thumb:

Godspeed Brakes 28 October 2017 11:40 AM

Done a bit more to the car this week , been very busy so didn't have enough spare time to do as much as I wanted.

Fitting the wings and lights on

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psvgjwzm12.jpg

Cut the hole for the sidelight wiring
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psmhiydsb9.jpg

Next was drilling the holes for the headlight bolts and locating pins
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps8xcap3rx.jpg

Figured the best way of doing this was to use the standard wing as a template , didn't want to get this wrong and the lights being out of level , and then having to make the holes larger to fix it , put some masking tape over the standard wing and marked the holes out , as I already had 2 bolts holding the wing on , I just put the masking tape on the CF wing , lined up the 2 marked holes with the bolts , and drilled through the rest , fitted perfect first time

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps2hwvvgtk.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps0m3gmmyl.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psjvdcpmm9.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps8xcap3rx.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psf51xd7zf.jpg

Had to modify the sidelight to fit into the CF wing , as there is not sharp edge for the light to fit into , I cut the plastic away and drilled a hole for it to fit into

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psxohoaeoy.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps4zsya2om.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psm9t71x5u.jpg

Had to take a little material away under the wing to get the sidelight in place , to be fair though , that is the only modification I have made to the panels so far , the fit is very good.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psxkt74y9n.jpg

Sidelight and headlight fitted

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps0aogv9qf.jpg

New bumper bar on

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...pswfe6rknt.jpg

Bumper placed on , it again is a perfect fit , everything is where is should be

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psa8mfsc2q.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps6vfctq7h.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...pssjsh1i1u.jpg

Job today is take the wings off , and re-route the wiring so its higher than the wing , I'm going to be fitting wheel arch covers , the wiring is lower than where they will be , so needs lifting

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...pstorjkm9h.jpg

Out in the daylight it's looking better

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psc3rafos2.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...pspgnlvixk.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps2jqwhsrm.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psjoipokbg.jpg

Had the glass taken out

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psyiwjemgh.jpg

Driver seat is left in loose to get it on and off the trailer going to the body shop , i'll remove it up there and get the seat cleaned up and stored until the car comes back

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps61adgyhe.jpg

Got some new side repeaters and rear number plate lights from Import car parts yesterday , so will be cutting out the holes in the front wings and rear bumper today , got new bumper indicators as well , will get those fitted as well so everything on the front end will be ready to paint , the bodyshop shouldn't have to do any modifications on the front.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psaelsgrcz.jpg

Couldn't wait so fitted one of the Speedline WRC replica's on the front , as the standard wheels look a bit lost in the arches !
Look's a lot better , just need to work out the thickness of spacers I need to make to fill them out WRC style now.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psg7ftwp97.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psprom0sts.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...pseqd3ftzn.jpg

It will be fitted with coilovers to drop it to the height I want , and it going to have something different brake wise

That's about it to date , will update further the more I do

Cheers Ian

johned 28 October 2017 08:08 PM

Looking good.

Harryr34 03 November 2017 09:45 PM

Stunning! I need this kit and a 2 door shell to go with it :thumb:

Godspeed Brakes 24 January 2018 05:49 PM

Haven't updated the thread for a while , it did grind to a halt for 3 weeks or so , the bodyshop had a slot for me , then didn't really do anything with the car , but things have been moving the last couple of weeks , and hopefully it should be painted this week , or at least some of it will be , backs of doors boot and bonnet

The rear quarters were cut off , and prepped , getting all the gaps right , and everything fitting right before doing the tubs

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps9aey1w4s.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps1a3xwzro.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps94yehjdn.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psa79winsw.jpg

Once they were happy with the fit , the tubs were made , done a real nice job of these , bending a lip on the outer edge to give the quarter a solid fixing point

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...pstzstzt9e.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps5ahyyjeo.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psaoy7fwia.jpg

Rear quarters now bonded on along with the sills

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psra0bszjq.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...pswte6inqh.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psdtywvojf.jpg

Going to have to do something at the bottom of the arch at the rear as it looks too open with the bumper on

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psq1waz1l7.jpg

I'll wait to fit the 18" when it comes back to our unit and see how it looks , I could fit mudflaps to cover it rally style , but I hate them ! on the rally car I had to run them , was in the regs , through choice I wouldn't have

That's all for now , hopefully have some pics in blue by the weekend

Cheers Ian
