New (not latest) phone

All,

I am currently using a HTC 1 m8 but it is starting to show its age. I need a new phone soon but I am not interested in spending stupid money on the latest phones for apps and stuff I don't use.

Anyone have any suggestions on good phones which have come out in latest 12-18 months?
