Rear shocks compatability

Hi

I'm looking for some second hand shocks for an my02 bug sti. Standard OE not coilovers, and not too expensive :)

What other years will fit, blob maybe?

Thanks

Cambs_Stuart 15 August 2017 10:26 PM

Non wide track blob should fit. Best bet would be to contact Matty at MB developments (find him on the traders section on here). He really knows his stuff.

That was my first port of call :) he doesn't have anything at the moment.

Thanks anyway :thumb:

Would have thought all newage would be interchangeable apart from wide track. Try tech section.

There's a lot less traffic through the tech section ;) I thought I would get a quicker response here :thumb:

IIRC Blobeye shocks will fit but you will need to use your original top mounts with them.

TECHNOPUG 16 August 2017 06:37 AM

Blob will fit using a spacer with your Bug mounts. Or fit Blob mounts with Blob shocks.

jaygsi 16 August 2017 07:44 AM

True, but there's a lot of people in the know in the tech section. And you don't get people taking your conversation off topic lol

Cheers guys, I suspected that blob would fit :)

Now all I have to do is find some :)

Sorry, that's not correct. Blob struts will NOT fit rear bug top mounts. You can fit Bug struts to Blob top mounts using the Scooby921 spacer or equivalent, but to use Blob struts you must use Blob top mounts.

Well spotted - wasn't quiet awake this morning!

boggissimo 16 August 2017 01:23 PM

I have a set of non-widetrack blob struts from my 05 wagon, which is now on coilovers. The only trouble is that I took them off because the shocks were knocking, especially on the rears, so you'd need to get new shocks to fit the struts. Also not sure if the OEM spring rates are the same for a wagon as a saloon.

Anyway, if they are any use to you, send me a PM.

Just had a look on ebay, try these:

Those will fit, but are from a WRX not STi. Better off IMO finding a complete set of STI suspension from a bug or narrowtrack blob STi - if you can find a blob set with top mounts included, compatibility won't be an issue.

Do enquire about the condition of the top mounts though before buying, as they degrade with time.

Ah yes, didn't spot he wanted STI ones. Duh.

Not really looking for new mate. The near side rear is giving the problems, looking for 2 rears :)

As with tyres, disks, pads etc I always change as a matching pair :thumb:

It's my daughters car and she doesn't want to spend too much

jaygsi 16 August 2017 07:20 PM

It's Subaru ownership bud. If she can't afford to run an STI why not go buy something cheaper. Even a WRX would be cheaper, as after market parts are all over the place. I have a strut here new for a WRX Bugeye.

I noticed that, but for the price it's worth a punt :) even as a temporary fix, the rear shock has failed the spring platform is touching the tyre :( at least it gets the car back on the road.

plenty 18 August 2017 10:48 AM

No probs..,just thought I'd mention it as you'd noted above you'd prefer a matching pair :thumb:

Hopefully the rear red is the NSR I require, can you tell from the pictures?

I will be looking at new replacements sooner rather than later, at least it gets her off my case fora while :lol1:
